Just wondering what the actual purpose of the rear light bar is on most new Porsches (and some other makes for that matter)?
Is it cosmetic or a safety feature?
I'm not complaining, as I think it suits Porsche's tremendously. But on some other makes like Kia, they look terrible on. And I don't think they suit small hatchback cars at all (like the new Seat Leon).
I've also seen the new electric Mercedes with the light bar on the front and it looks absolutely horrendous! I sincerely hope Porsche do not follow suit. I really think it looks tacky on the front (like the small Renaults that have had them for several years now). The Golf 8 has also ventured this way and it is the only part of the car that looks ugly. Shame really as I'm a huge fan of the Golf's.
What is the Actual Purpose of the Rear Light Bar?
I remember watching a documentary somewhere around the lighting design language of Porsches and the light bar was not only for lts lighting function but it was also designed so it was recognisable as a porsche but looking at the light in the dark
I have to agree that is does not look good on many other brand especially the front. Almost giving a front 'the monobrow'

Rear light bar looks pretty cool on the Racing Yellow 911 C4 GTS as featured in the recent Carfection video with Henry Catchpole.

I’ll get my coat to!
I always have to do a double take … is that another Macan or is it a Kia.
Weirdly it gets me thinking who was first with the light bar, Kia or Porsche?
