I've finally had my new set of Michelin Latitude Sport 3 N2 tyres fitted, the tyre shop did a good job, used matching black weights and torqued up to 160 nm which is correct for Porsche and even put the centre caps back on pointing to the tyre valves (which is what we nerds like). Unknown to me, Michelin give a five year warranty on their tyres which is quite reassuring. My OEM tyres were Continentals which I cannot recommend and the sides of their tyres showed signs of perishing after only three years and wear on the fronts was excessive.
The only downside was trying to remove the adhesive from the old weights. Having tried all the suggestions on YouTube, none of which worked and all my various wheel cleaners, I eventually resorted to scraping with a plastic tool and rubbing hard with a microfibre cloth. Took me best part of a day and I finished by giving wheels a coat of alloy wheel protector. 3M do an adhesive remover which is very effective but intended for industrial use which might harm the finish on the wheels. Porsche must stick their weights on with super glue, I never had a problem with my Mercs which only needed a sharp fingernail. Icing on the cake, £100 cash back authorised by Michelin.

Paintbrush cleaner is great for removing most "sticky stuff" not tried it for the above, yet....

WD40 is basically white spirit, with a bit of light mineral oil added.

I tried all of those without success. The top layer which is like black tape comes away easily, but the closer you get to the wheel surface the harder it gets until you think its permanently attached. Nothing I tried softens it, just hard work with a microfibre rubbing with pressure eventually gets it off without doing any damage. I have just discovered (too late) that Gtechniq sell a product to remove tar and glue which might make life a little easier if you find yourself in my situation.

I was only adding my knowledge and experience of using WD40 in removing adhesive based upon the OP, but thanks for the chemical breakdown advice. I’m sure If it was that chemically simple a company that’s been around since 1953 would have long since gone out of business 😉.

Simplicity works for Evian and a host of others too! Probably because the consumers are frequently simpletons too, just browse this forum for evidence
