The word “great” is a reference to its size against “lesser Britain” which became Brittany.

Moriarty wrote: Mon Oct 02, 2023 4:56 pm I’m getting nervous about the insurance for my Macan S that is due to complete its build this week. I should check out the comparison sites to see what the damage might be. At least I avoided the imminent Porsche price rises so that’s a big plus.

Edit: £870 was the lowest quote. Not terrible given the value of the car.
While any rise in price is annoying, it ain't the end of the world. If people can afford a £70k car then they can't really complain about £2.38 a day for insurance (based on £870 a year).

Years ago I remember people speccing up Audi S3's for £500+ a month. Then suddenly cancelling the car as road tax went up to £500 a year. Just an extra couple hundred pounds a year. If they struggle with £500 a year for road tax, then maybe they shouldn't be ordering a car for £500+ a month repayments.

I think it's a very fair argument to put it into wider context like that. £2.50 a day is absolutely affordable.

But I guess there's an upper limit, right? £1,500 a year on insurance does feel mad even if that is £x a day.

I think with anything in life there comes a point where you decide if you’re being ripped off. Yes I could afford to pay £1500 for my Macan’s insurance. Would I pay it? Possibly once, but after that it’d be goodbye car as I’m too principled for it not to grate on me 😉

Well that's all well and good if you have a replacement for the Macan that you can insure for less but I suspect rip off prices are not peculiar to Macans.

That's the tricky point - the big reason I got a Macan was that I truly didn't think there was any other vehicle on the market suitable.

I guess I could go back to a hot hatchback and cramming my bikes in the boot!

Suitable with a Porsche badge, or any other vehicle at all??
There are literally dozens of medium sized SUV’s that would be “suitable” if you are measuring comfortable transport that can swallow up a big load and offer advanced tech - Q5 is obvious example or Alpha Stelvio for better handling and more power than Macan, plus loads of others in between! 😂😂

Alpha Stelvio is a diesel.

Q5 is.... a diesel. 😂😂

Both have like... 240 HP? Both not really contenders to a Macan GTS. Thankfully I'm not just measuring comfortable transport as the only criteria for a car - otherwise I'd end up in boring diesel land!

And I doubt either would be substantially cheaper to insure than a Macan anyway.
