Same as me, I collected my new X5 from the dealer a mere 6 days before the April 1st deadline for the new tax.

Its why I'm slightly loathe to get rid of it, especially given its only done 53k miles now due to 9 months not working during Covid and largely WFH since getting back to work just before Xmas 2020.

Doing the VED sums for a new Macan for first 5-6 years does make one gulp a little.
:o
It's only money and you can't take it with you!
True......but, I preferred to spend money on a weekend toy restoration project........which in the usual way these things go, has consumed double what was budgeted for 7 years ago........
As you say, its only money :D

I remember ordering my previous BMW 440i earlier than originally planned to get it delivered before March 2017, thereby saving me a considerable wedge in tax over the six years I had it.

With the Macan, it is what it is.

I thought it was high for first five years Simon, is it actually six??
5 years after Year 1 = 6 years in total at high road tax, so glad that mine’s a keeper. ;)

Blimey, time flies Simon doesn’t it! My GTS will be six then too. What shall we spend the ‘extra’ money on?

I know it probably won’t affect Porsches, but it’s wrong that the £40k threshold or whatever it is doesn’t go up in line with inflation every year.

Not exactly correct , it's the next five taxes after the initial 1st registration fee is paid.
My 2018 MB C class was 3 weeks old in March 2018 with 50 miles on the clock when I bought it , so I only paid the extra £390 for 5 years , March 2018 (when I bought it) March 2019,March 2020,March 2021 and March 2022 I only paid the lower rate in March 2023.
The same will happen with my ex demo Macan , OPC paid the 1st reg cost of £2100 in Dec and I paid £540 when I bought it in April . So I only have to pay the extra for the next 4 years.

The way the tax ends slightly earlier if the car changes hands within its first year of ownership is a real oddity. At least it does go down; cars from March 2006 which sat in the higher tax bands are prohibitively expensive to run now they’re older and cheap to buy.
