Does anyone use the tyre hotel facilities. I gather Porsche charge around £500 pa to store and change wheels.

My Volvo dealer used to store mine free and charge £50 to swap them. That’s was a few years ago now.

I can get a tyre fitter to swap them on my drive for around £85 a session and store them in the garage.

I’m leaning very heavily towards this last option. What do you guys do (if you run a set of winters that is) ?

£500?

Good grief! On my last car, our local BMW dealer here in central London used to do it for £180 per year - that covered two swaps per year and storage of the "off" wheel set in their tyre hotel. Sadly they closed the tyre hotel about two years ago, so thereafter I just had the local Kwikfit swap over the wheels as and when, and a friend kindly let me stash the off set at the back of their garage.

In Italy, for our Mini, the local tyre fitter charges me 100 euros a year for the two changes and storage - and that's even taking into account having to change the tyres over (didn't bother with a second set of alloys), rather than just bolting on and off two different sets of alloys with tyres.

I bought a Porsche jack to fit mine, already have a torque wrench, so I swop them myself. It took about 75 mins, not quite formula one time but it was the first time I've used the Porsche jack. I used to store the spare set in my garage but 20" wheels take up a bit more room in front of my car so now store them in the shed.

Edinburgh will store them and change them for free so long as you’ve bought them through them.

I used to get mine stored for free, but lately they charged (Swindon and Tewkesbury).

My winter wheels/tyres for sale as they no longer fit, after a brake upgrade.

To be honest £500 is a joke. How long does it take to swap 4 wheels? Usually done, I expect, by an apprentice. Then to store. They haven’t really thought this through. Firstly you buy the wheels & tyres. Then they’ve got you for replacements. Also fosters goodwill. This is what happens when bean counters run a business. It’s all for today. Oh well it’s not as if I have to use them.

If you have suitable storage, £170 is a lot cheaper than £500. ;)

4 years ago I approached my two nearest OPC's for quotes for a winter wheel set and storage and change costs. Both said they wanted £100 per change. The nearest OPC offered free storage so I went with them. and use them for service. I think the other wanted about £50 per 6 months for storage from memory.

7 wheel set swops on, I have never been charged for a swop. I have tended to time the with service work or MOT. i do not ask for loan car but tend depending on length of service but use nearby free hot desking services or use the OPC lounge/cafe. I am still not charged for service.

I'd rather run all-seasons instead.

Unless I lived high up and remote, or drove to the Alps etc., every winter for holibobs, decent all-seasons are OK for 95% of UK weather conditions.
