If you want to go the wireless route I did a load of research and bought this... (fellow Gen II owner without integrated wireless carplay)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186199317981

Works a treat and fits very nicely behind the clip inside the armrest storage.

When I first got it, it would occasionally cut out and wasn't massively responsive so I did (more) research and used the settings shown below.

One of my previous cars had integrated wireless Apple Carplay and using this adapter is just as good as that was.

I was sceptical but pleasantly surprised it all worked well.

I have a Gen 2 Turbo and enjoy wireless Apple car play, waze, voice control etc. with no trouble at all. I had an iPhone 12 until recently and upgraded to iPhone 15 and still works perfectly. You can also have several iPhones on the system, but I have never found out how to delete the old, out of date ones.

I assumed that all Gen 2 models came equipped with Wireless Apple Car Play, but obviously not !? Does anyone know the production date / cut off when cars started coming with Wireless Apple Car play for the Gen 2 models please.

I am looking at getting a 2019 / 2020 Gen II - going to look at one at Porsche Leicester today actually in Miami Blue !

Thanks
Andrew

My gen 2 works perfectly with wireless connection. The only reason I might connect with a cable is to charge the phone if the battery is low.

My Sept 2019 Gen 2 S came with wireless CarPlay. I don’t know if all Gen 2s came with wireless CarPlay, or whether it was added to Gen 2s at some point.

I do recall that the SE was interested in seeing how it worked when my car was delivered - I think the wireless element was a new feature on the Macan at that time.

As long as you have CarPlay then it’s easy to convert to wireless with an adapter.

I use a Carlink 5.0 in my Merc

I have just found this on the Rennlist forum , which implies all 2019+ model years ie. the gen2 onwards have PCM 5 which supports wireless carplay (It does say that some countries might disable it though)

From the Rennlist Forum:-
2017 -2018 is still using PCM4.
the hardware on PCM4 is not capable of doing wireless CarPlay .
only 2019+ with PCM5 has newer hardware which support wireless CarPlay.

Early Gen II cars (like mine) appear to be wired only.

I was told by my sales guy that the way to tell visually is to look at the USB ports in the armrest. If you have wireless then they are USB C, wired are USB A.....
