The other day someone here mentioned voice control for SatNav etc. and I'm wondering how my wife could use this?

She has an iPhone 13 and from memory I seem to recall on the Gen 2 she'd need to physically connect it to the centre USB socket rather than it having the ability to connect via Bluetooth (as with Gen 3 Macan's perhaps?).

Am I correct that is has to be a plug-in iPhone connection?

This, and any other info as to the advantages of iPhone connection most appreciated. Google maps perhaps being one of them.

My wife uses this in her Boxster. Plug into centre consul (it’s about size of a fag packet) and that’s where it stays. iPhone connects via Bluetooth every time so can stay in her handbag etc. circa £100 👍

Thanks for that. Do you know why the iPhone cannot connect to the Macan direct by bluetooth?

Hardware or software issue? I'm guessing hardware in view of the gadget.

I think it’s the PCM software that dictates. So the phone can connect via Bluetooth but CarPlay requires hard wire, so Google, Ways, Spotify etc will need the wire connection. Gen3 Macans are updated to accept CarPlay via Bluetooth too.
This or similar gadget effectively takes on the role of the software missing in Gen2 PCM. (I think!)

It might be that some markets like the US had wireless CarPlay earlier??
I don’t think UK Gen2 cars have it but someone on here may know better.
There may be some kind of software hack that allows it too but the £100 gizmo just seems easier 🤷‍♂️

I found this thread where a 2019 owner had a specialist activate the hidden coding in the car: https://www.macanforum.com/threads/earl ... st-2768865

Also, the dongle you suggested above Jon, from CarlinKit at £55:

The latter seems easiest, but who are CarlinKit? There are many unknown brands available on Google from £20. Guess you get what you pay for.

I'll have a look around, but this one from "Marfuleaky" (Hmmm...) gets better Amazon reviews:

This one does both CarPlay and Android Auto, though I'm aware the Macan doesn't support the latter:

Circa £45 from multiple sellers via Google.

Could be useful for AA in the future as mine's the Android phone.

Yes I was guessing on price a bit 😳
I think it will display android too as the software is in the gizmo, the screen is just mirroring it?

I have four of these. Work well with Pioneer had units too. I bought one from China and it went shut. Zero warranty follow up. Latterly bought from Amazon; well worth a little extra for returns if needed
