For sure and the 997.2 I have is great for blasting down a country road or a track day, but my usage is moving more towards the longer trips where a little extra refinement like the Macan gives may be appreciated.

992 is next level to Macan in terms of modernity and looks and next step up in terms of tech.
However, it’s much noisier and a much firmer ride, not uncomfortable, but firmer.
The two cars do not really bare comparison as obviously they fulfil different roles.
The Boxster (and 991.2) interior is a little dated to my eyes but still functional although tech is a step down of course due to PCM software.
I hope to have 992 plus Macan at least for a while, I think this is perfect combo
Thanks, that was the kind of experience I was looking for.

I love the 997.2 and have done many track days. I had a 986 2.7, and a 996 convertible.

I did a 650 mile drive across Spain a couple of days ago in our diesel Macan, with four of us in it and luggage, and it performed brilliantly. Steering and active suspension was fantastic at (high) speed and made the drive effortless. I did the same drive in the 911 a couple of years ago and yes of course it handles the speed and corners as effortlessly, but the refinement is of course lacking. No I'm not looking for the same level of comfort in a 911 but something closer to the Macan is the question.

It's an age thing when you ask yourself these types of question.
We do occasionally need two cars though. What else could replace the Cayman for £25k? Answer = Nothing.
Lol, you may be right, the Macan we have only had a few months and for the road seems to be all I need. I'm Just not ready to admit defeat and give up the 911 completely just yet.

I had to run my old man up to Cambridge the other day and I told him I was taken the 911 as the Macan is doing some miles at the minute.

He groaned (although he is a petrol head) because he remembered it has being noisy and a bit uncomfortable

However he commented on our way back that it was much better than he remembered and even quieter so it was an ok from him!

The 911 is a lot noisier (road and wind) and the Macan is so comfortable and smooth. It handles well for what it is but I get annoyed when people try and say it is a 4 door 911!!!

I've had Macans and 911s - the Macan is a superb SUV, it's not a sports car, neither is it a proper off roader. Great for mile crunching cruising with added height clearance and 4 wheel drive. Nothing handles as good. The 911 is a sports car - low to the ground, harsh riding, superb handling, great on a bendy road.

You can argue which is the best 911 - my view and I have a 992 Turbo at the moment, is that both the 991 and 992 have grown too big - hence the charge being levelled at it for being a GT car and I know why they have done it for engineering reasons - suspension , performance etc.

Probably the best sized modern 911 is the 996/997. It's the perfect size and in 997.2 guise you can get a PDK gearbox. The modern Cayman is a similar size to the older 911s and you could also argue the current 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 is all the Porsche Sports car you need.

The reason I have a 992 is that I can live with the size of the vehicle and like the modern interior.

I'm looking to buy a 4x4 but want a proper off roader with 7 seats and the only car on my shortlist is a Toyota Land Cruiser - awaiting release of the new J250 model. It's going to be reliable, bullet proof and do the off roading stuff properly.

It is so subjective isn't it.

Twisty B road and of course the 911's win for composure. The flowing Spanish motorways I did a few hundred miles across on Saturday and the Macan was probably the more stable, easier-to-manage vehicle, but that was true GT car territory.
A track car your Exige is way better than my 911 of course, but a couple of hundred motorway miles is a different thing. When I got the 997.2 I did loads of track days and was often the quickest vehicle on the track, somewhat too good for the average day I attended and that became boring as you always want someone to chase. Its now become more weekend to weekend use and hence its ability as a GT car is perhaps more relevant, hence, refinement wise where does the 991/992 sit behind the Macan question.

Arif and Tracky will have a broader perspective but I use my 992 as an everyday car, so that’s to work, supermarket, visiting family, whatever is required. I find it as comfortable and “civilised” as a M435d I had pre pandemic.
I also find it way quick enough for any UK road and a dream for taking for a blast around the Peak District (as I did today). I occasionally need to travel further afield with work and can sit at 75 all day long in complete comfort.
But…. I don’t do track days so can offer no comment on its competency here. I don’t need to carry more than one other person and I don’t use it to lug cargo, so for me it is perfect.
The Macan has other qualities.

I’d say you can achieve all of this in a Macan so it’s additional qualities (like capacity for humans and luggage) rather than ‘other’ ones 😉

No question though, I enjoyed my afternoon in a manual 911 GTS 😁
