We purchased a 2015 Macan SD 6 months ago to replace a Q7 and having completed 3000 miles in it over the last 10 days, I have to say I love it, what a great car.

I've had my 997.2 for 7 years now, and still love it, but the Macan really shows how "sports car" ie loud and rough and ready it is compared to the refinement of the Macan.

Nothing wrong with that particularly but how do the newer 911's compare, how new would I have to go to get similar refinement and noise levels to the Macan?

Any 911 is a sports car which any Macan is not therefore not sure you will ever get that level of refinement in a 911 as they aren’t designed for that.

Can comment on 992 and 991.2 as that is very similar to our 718.
992 is next level to Macan in terms of modernity and looks and next step up in terms of tech.
However, it’s much noisier and a much firmer ride, not uncomfortable, but firmer.
The two cars do not really bare comparison as obviously they fulfil different roles.
The Boxster (and 991.2) interior is a little dated to my eyes but still functional although tech is a step down of course due to PCM software.
I hope to have 992 plus Macan at least for a while, I think this is perfect combo

Very much depends on the 911. Some are pretty raw in comparison to my previous Macan S. My current 991.2CS is more comfortable (for me at any rate) than the Macan and just as luxurious. The one area where you may really notice a difference is tyre noise - on UK roads it is pretty loud and constant. I did 620 miles in a day in France in the summer and barely noticed it.

Go and test drive some potentials.

Only you can tell what is what.

And if it was, it would no longer be a 911 and defeat the point of its very existence.

I drove my 981 Cayman yesterday and thought it still beats our Macan S for sporty nimbleness yet still comfortable with PASM. Then today whilst throwing the Macan around I thought why do I need the 981!?
It's an age thing when you ask yourself these types of question.
We do occasionally need two cars though. What else could replace the Cayman for £25k? Answer = Nothing.

Agree completely with this. My 911 is a 2018 991.2 Carrera T and I’ve deliberately made it more ‘sports car’ and less quiet, refined cruiser. :P

As the years have gone by, 911s have got bigger, heavier and more refined, so maybe now the 992 is closer to a GT car, being much larger and less raw than earlier 911s...

I agree with this, I would say particularly the 992 C2 is more GT than sports car in the purest form. Still blisteringly quick and a very easy long distance cruiser when required. 👍
