Nuclear Nick wrote: Sat Mar 09, 2024 11:34 am I’m usually highly sceptical about this sort of video. How did he find and persuade the ‘car thief’ to appear in the video? Driving around with a guy in a balaclava in the front passenger seat? Apparently stealing a Range Rover from a supermarket car park, no doubt with CCTV everywhere, and then driving around in it? Quite a lot more would need fact checking I think. The ever more intrusive adverts in these videos tells us a lot about the motivation for making them and certainly why they are juicing them up as much as possible.
Agree Nick it just doesn’t feel authentic
Agree. He points at a vw beetle from years ago and says no problem! No keyless entry there....

I've wasted my time watching a few of his videos (him trying to show how 'corrupt' the whole gt3 rs allocation thing is etc) and he's worse than the daily mail for sensationalism

I base my decision on whether to watch videos on YouTube on the thumbnail and title. I’d never watch his channel 😄

I’d never heard of his channel, then some time ago one of his videos popped up on my recommendations list, as he was reviewing his Escort Cosworth.

Informed us several times that he’d shagged in the back of it. Well done mate, you’ve had sex. Move on and review the damn car !

Watched the car theft video last night, and agree it looks a bit odd. But it did highlight the requirement for an aftermarket anti-theft device for anyone with keyless go. I just wish something had been mentioned regarding if they can now easily steal cars without keyless.

I disagree regarding putting your family at risk with having a Ghost. Yes, in extreme circumstances they may enter the house for the code, but realistically they’ll be on their toes not wanting to hang around. When I had a Ghost on my X3, the second I’d have heard it start up, I’d have the lights on, window open, and making such a noise it’d wake my neighbours up. Thieves won’t want to be hanging around.

Agree with Wab here on the entering the house point. I just don’t think that’s likely for a Macan, maybe for an ultra rare Ferrari or something that has been “ordered” but not for a normal car, just way too much risk.
Ghost seems reliable way to stop theft outright.

To be fair, a pair of thieves did enter family members house to steal a Golf R - they were in at the time too. Luckily, they were blind drunk, asleep upstairs and the keys were on the side downstairs - so they didn't hear or confront them.

Car was found 2 months later 400 miles away during a Police chase.

That’s unfortunate but says more about their house security! 😳

The theft in which the two suspects drove off within 30 seconds highlights how quickly modern car security systems can be defeated, often with software tools bought online. Range Rovers have been commonly targeted by gangs, sending insurance premiums rising to record highs.

Wouldn’t put a lot of credence in his content to be honest as he is a sensationalist YouTuber. He did some videos recently on trying to buy a new GT3 which were more than flawed and just reeked of sour grapes. He eventually bought a used one and the figures he talked about just don’t add up. Content seeker jumping onto whatever the current story happens to be.

A quarter of a Million subscribers plus all the click and watchers means a fair amount of cash coming in via Youtube advertisement revenue, which after all is the whole purpose of these and all review video’s etc that appear on YT.

Far to many issues raised but not the answers, those will be via a series of additional videos etc each with their own income stream.

The guy was hooked on keyless entry yet the “thief” sat next to him and opened the SVR with the code being scanned.

He did not cover those of us who have RF keys.

The OBD port, what is there to stop unauthorised access?

Why is remote communication with a vehicle’s OS necessary, OK for the Tracker which in my mind should be a totally separate system not connected electronically to the car OS.
