There has been a lot of discussion about winter tyres etc. but what settings should we use for driving in snow.

My thoughts so far - press "off road" and hope for the best Confused

Has anyone had any practical experience?

Before the snow arrives I would suggest that Macan owners who live on a hill get familiar with Porsche Hill Control. Better to get familiar now than on the day it snows. Unlike some hill descent systems the Porsche system also works in reverse which is good for me as I drive up my driveway when I come home at night and have to reverse down in the morning.

I like the suggestions above, but boringly, and critically, do only small inputs on throttle, steering, brake. Don't ask your tyres to do more than one thing at once - either steering or accelerating or stopping.

Off road mode, will give you greater clearance, so you'll be less of a snow plough in deep snow, but practically, you won't need it. Higher centre of gravity can cause more body roll, which creates a greater differential in available grip across the axels.

It's said the off road mode improves traction control for loose surfaces, like snow and ice, but I've no experience with it (Macan offroad mode). More often than not, the recommendation is to switch off stability and traction control, so that would be PSM in the Macan. Anyone care to comment for the Macan?

Hill descent control is usually very good, but obviously only good going down hill.

Grip is limited, but going up hill, you need more torque at the wheel, so you're more likely to reach the grip limit. Don't be tempted to spin the wheels - grip will be near zero.

Harder with PDK, but try to be in as high a gear as possible to minimise torque delivery (this is where the weedy Macan 2.0 petrol wins!).

And number 1 again: minimal inputs. Apply brake and throttle gentle, turn wheel slowly. One thing at a time.

Or sod it and go for SPL's advice LOL

I've played about a bit - but only on the 20" michelin summers, so not really a fair crack of the whip.
My
favourite trick is the axle twister - diagonal wheels unloaded; I have
to admit that although it made it up the slope on the second attempt
(30-35 degrees, hard packed wet mud, there wasn't as much traction or
drive to the two wheels that were on the floor as I'd have liked.
It
seems like such an easy thing to achieve to the layman, but drive to the
two wheels that aren't spinning madly, obviously isn't! I've used the
same slope with a few different models and this isn't the worst by any
means, but I was hoping for a little less drama!

There's a link somewhere - I'll try and find it...

It's not me obviously, but the clip where he tries to climb a bank demonstrates what I'm trying to describe!

Good to see another advantage of the 2.0 Macan being quoted, although surely not on many forums would a 252bhp piece of quality engineering be referred to as "weedy" LOL Confused Wink

Off-road mode also stiiffens up the limited slip differential if you have PTV+ Smile.
