Hmm. Not noticed any warning messages-I'm a bit OCD when it comes to the infotainment that the MFD can supply. Might have to refer to the handbook.

No, no, don't give in to the handbook!

Paul, can you add to the dfp purge onfo please, when conditions are correct lets say heat and soot accumulation, the burn off takes place is this to atmosphere hence the possibility or smelling it, or all internaly burnt off.
For many / most their frequent / daily commutes will activate the burn off, thus its an ongoing deposit removal process, hence the need for some longer duration journeys.

Hi Nomad - copied and pasted from the good to know app below:

Diesel Particle Filter

The diesel particle filter collects and burns soot generated during the combustion of diesel fuel.

The diesel particle filter filters almost all of the soot particles from the exhaust gases. The diesel particle filter is cleaned after longer or shorter intervals depending on the driving style. During this cleaning process, which takes a few minutes, there can temporarily be a slight, low-frequency change in the engine noise and brief adaptation of the gearshift behaviour.

If automatic filter cleaning is not possible (because, for example, the vehicle is used for short trips only), a warning message appears on the multi-function display in the instrument panel.

For information on warning messages on the multi-function display:
Please refer to chapter "OVERVIEW OF WARNING AND INFORMATION MESSAGES".
Adapt your driving style so that the filter cleans itself automatically.
Drive for about 15 minutes at a minimum speed of 60 km/h (37 mph) and an engine speed greater than 2,000 rpm.

Also ties in with my previous experiences with VW Group (Skoda) vehicles.

If you ignore the warning lights and it goes into limp home mode you get one chance at a " forced regeneration" by the dealership using the diagnostic machine; after that its a new filter.

Ok. So now the Mrs is buried with Death in Paradise, I'm free to report in; the following morning (yesterday) I travelled another 50 miles along the M4/M5 in -5degC at a fairly steady 1950rpm (i.e. not more than the 2000rpm recommended for dpf cleanse, although I don't imagine these figures are quite so precise) and when I arrived at work the car had started its cycle again -rpm at idle at 800. Hasn't happened since but I do wonder why the car didn't take advantage of the motorway to burn off.

Not really concerned...
Cheers

Great excuse to use the sport buttons- from memory you need to be going 80ish to get the rpm over 2000 on the motorway! By calculation of course. ..

So my just-about-a-year-old Turbo, at approx 4670 miles asked for 1L oil top-up.

Mine did that about the same mileage, but asked for a quart!

My last Porsche needed a top up of oil after about 8k miles then never needed another drop. I think it probably uses some oil while the engine is bedding in then less so.
