No, you do not need a SIM in the car for Porsche Car Connect to work.

With PCC, what is your mobile app talking to in the car? that's why I wondered if you need a SIM?

A lot of the info on the Porseche website and also my SE is vague!

I think you must be right, however, it's separate from the one you need to insert to access the other functions discussed above and is buried somewhere inside the car.

Couldn't agree more about the dire state of the info on the website.

There is another thread live now about this. It seems a 'standard SIM' is necessary to use Connect Plus, as confirmed by conversation with @Luke and his OPC. Assumption that this to boost signal via car antenna for the best connection.

I guess the standard SIM is on 3G and a cheap plan. Leaving the customer to worry about heavy data usage on 4G.

I concur you do not need anything for Connect - my App is setup and I can see the car sat at the dealer all locked and safe - I might sound the horn for a laugh!

If I don't bother with the Car Connect thingy ('free' service, at least initially) am I missing out on much? My insurance doesn't require a tracker.
Cheers

Yes you will be missing out.

Missing out carrying around a bit of plastic. That if you don't have on you when in the car you get warning messages and calls from Cobra

Is it a Porsche-shaped piece of plastic with the word "PORSCHE" stamped into it?
