After a discussion with my dealer as we wanted 21's and whether to go for air or not (not as ride is sweet anyway), the air is not required on the Diesel for sure, on the Turbo it adds another level of artificiality as the computers are trying to react to your driving and although microscopic, there is a delay in the car adjusting. Plus it adds weight and exposure to failure.....

I had air on a Cayenne and liked the ride it gave, also I like that the car can ride 10mm lower but that is purely an aesthetic view so I've ticked air

I personally disagree with this. If we were talking about a 911, Cayman or a boxster, then I can somewhat understand this point of view. They are considered sports cars. The Macan is an SUV. The panamera turbo, and the Cayenne Turbo (which are more of a comparison to the Macan) both come with Air as standard, so Porsche abviously feel that the Air setup suits the turbo models better. I have not driven the Macan yet, so am only able to go on the numerouse reviews of the Macan, which predominantly rate the Air as better than the standard. (I also do acknowledge they also say that you don't "need" the air as the PASM is very good, but if you can, then have it).

Going back to the original post, I don't think there is a correct answer for you Arifrajpura. Like most of this, it's down to choice and what you want for the car personally. I suppose the sensible answer would be, don't regret having, or not having an option, as long as you can afford it

Thanks Ger and fellow Macaners, I was thinking of getting it from both a ride perspective (as I'm going to spec the 21s) and I also thought the aesthetics may be better. So reflecting on it - I think I'll go for 21s and Air as well as Sports Chrono on my turbo. Wasn't going to spec the PTV, but would value whether colleagues feel that should be added or is that just one for the track?

I tested a petrol S with 20s on PASM, no air, and it was fine, so I've ordered my turbo with 20s with no air.

+1 agree with that. My Cayenne with air was always dropped one notch down from "normal" and with 21 inch wheels the arches looked full.

You may already have discussed this already but I'd be interested to hear what forum members think about the Air Suspension. Have ordered the turbo, so will get the PASM as standard, I'm wondering if the air suspension is going to worth the extra 1k?

Hi Arifrajpura,
From what people seem to say from their test drives and ownerships("the lucky ones"), it does not seem to need the air suspension for decent ride quality, as the standard PASM seems to be good. However, in most of the motoring journalists reviews, they all generally say it improves the ride even more, so it depends on what you are looking for? Sorry not very helpful I too am getting the turbo, and have ordered the Air, the PTV Plus, and Sports Chrono. Rightly or wrongly, I personally feel, if you are going down the turbo route, spec the performance orientated features.( Not sure you will get all the money back come resale, but a well specced cayenne and panamera costs a considerable amount more than a less specced one. )

With you on that one Ger.

Not havng experienced anything other than standard springs I'd say that was pretty damn impressive without PASM too.......

Like Ger I'm in the in for a penny in for a pound camp and ticked all the performance orientated options. Do I need PTV for hauling the kids around, nope. But then I don't the Turbo either. Past £20k-ish cars are about want not need. If you want it, and can afford it, go for it.

Question is - will there be any noticeable difference with PTV when doing road driving?

I don't recon any 'normal' everyday driver would even notice PTV

At low and medium vehicle speeds, PTV Plus significantly increases agility and steering precision. At high speeds on the straight, and in fast corners where the wheels threaten to spin, the electronically controlled rear differential lock provides added driving stability. Stability is also improved on road surfaces with varying grip as well as in the wet and snow.
(copied from Porsches web site)

Sounds good to me, so ticked the box. Not sure I will feel half the things the car is actually supposedly doing, if I am honest. Have not selected it for the high speed cornering, though that's a bonus. Have selected it for "variable grip surfaces, in the wet snow" conditions it can help with. As it says "At low and medium vehicle speeds, PTV Plus significantly increases agility and steering precision". What's not to like? Ger2014-05-16 08:40:43
