Update, got the car back after 10 days, the dealer had managed to replicate the loss of colour and blank display while they had it. The suggested Porsche fix was to replace the complete drivers display (not the central display unit). They had to order this in and the bank holiday added to the delay. It's all ok now and no signs of any damage I can see from removing and replacing the dash twice. The dealer is not 100% confident of this repair as apparently it's not been seen by them or Porsche before, so I'm the guinea pig on this, but hopefully it will be the final solution, will keep you posted.
Mind you having the Cayenne S diesel with its huge torque made the Macan seem a bit sluggish when overtaking, pity they don't fit it in the Macan!

Here's hoping all is now well. At least the dealer was able to replicate the issue and see it for themselves, quite often that can be hard to do.

I've had this a couple of times, it doesn't right itself on mine until the ign has been switched off fully and left. I don't think it has happened since I had the software update done (but I can't be 100% sure)
I've had this - a PCM reset by holding down the on/off button for a long time fixes it.

If you are trying to get a reading immediately after start it won't work. You need to have driven or be on the move.

Display played up yet again, this is the fourth time. It's back to the dealer on 12th July for a week for them to have another attempt at fixing it, planning to write to Porsche GB about getting a permanent fix rather than trial and error as it seems to have been up to now. I have sympathies with the dealer as warranty work has to be agreed with Porsche so they call the shots on what is done. Will keep you all updated on progress

Have you tried powering off the PCM for a couple of minutes and back on again?
If that resolves its probably a software issue which may not be a solution for. I had same issue but only once. You may of done a lot more miles / driving than me though.

Wrote to Porsche GB to tell them I wasn't happy and this time I wanted a guaranteed repair not a trial and error attempt of change something and hope it fixes it and if not have another go. I got an acknowledgement the next day and today another reply saying they will be in contact with the dealer when they collect my car on the 12th. I stressed I'm not unhappy with the dealer as they were up front in saying they had not seen this problem before and apparently Porsche hadn't either. They reckon they will need the car for a week and are lending me a Cayenne again. In the meantime having a play in my wife's new John Cooper Works Mini Countryman with all the toys and packs on it!

I am not convinced you will get the problem resolved as this really does sound like a software issue. Unless they have had enough reports for them to investigate and replicate there will be no immediate solution. Then they have to produce the software fix which takes months including testing / rolling out etc. This is the current world we live in with so much reliant on software / hardware.
if there is a particular combination of things you do in a particular order to replicate it will help assist otherwise a power off of PCM and back on solves it?

Do keep us posted though on developmets. Especially on the Mini Countryman as we are expecting one in September πŸ˜€

I agree, I'm pretty sure it's a combination of software , firmware and a particular sequence of events that cause the problem. My quandary is what to do, I love the car but this really annoys me each time it does it and for best part of Β£60k it's not what should be happening. Do I reject the car and order another one, do I spit out my dummy and get rid of it and get something else - what though? I guess I'll just have to see what they say after looking at it this time. Now my wife has the Mini Countryman which is actually bigger inside than the Macan I could have a sports car again. Would struggle to justify a new 911 so a used one or maybe a Cayman, but would it potentially have the same problem, I don't fit in a Jaguar F type so maybe a Maserati Gransport or Granturismo? Who knows, in the meantime I'll keep working on restoring the Lotus.
