So all who buy petrol engines cars to do limited mileage could well end up with the same issues that diesel drivers have now.
Oh dear - look out you GT3 drivers! And many 911 drivers, in fact!

Kind of glad that ours are being built before the shutdown. :geek:

The GPF system supposedly does not require any regenerative cycle and low journeys should not clog up the filter as per an oil burners DPF since a petrol engine warms up far quicker and the higher temperature of a petrol engine exhaust will burn off the particulate.

Yes, Simon, indeed it is exciting! I'm borrowing a demonstrator tomorrow to see what changes I need to make in the garage to get it in beside the Macan! Fingers crossed.

Have fun and please take some pics!

We can all enjoy at least pics of a demo 911 while we await our own ones! ;)

Hi - was about to head out couple of weeks ago to buy second hand Macan S Diesel and read this forum night before which stopped me. Thank you all for posting.. Live in London so lot's of short journeys but petrol is just way more expensive.. Evaluating whether I am prepared to do a regular over 2k RPM and 50mph drive regularly but would go nuts if it went into limp mode..

My question is the posts here on DPF issues seem to be from last year and connecting the dots in many cases following a software update. I don't however see the DPF problem reported much this year..

Was there a fix via software or you are not posting anymore because you all switched to petrol? Or just found a way of living with problem?

Any suggestion that is an association between software updates and DPF warnings is just speculation. In 2+ years of SD ownership I think I had one warning before the fix and one since (both after periods when I happened to be just doing purely local journeys for 2-3 weeks, but a quick blast in manual mode soon cleared the warning). Someone who happened to get a warning after the update might believe there is an association. But I've seen no widespread evidence that the fix causes more DPF warnings. And I suspect that there would be a lot more posts on here if there was indeed a clear association between the two.

The message has to be that if you regularly only do shortish journeys then the SD (or indeed any modern diesel) probably isn't for you. If you do hit a patch of local journeys only then you need to take the car for a good blast every 10-14 days or so (which TBH is no great hardship). And if you do get a DPF warning then head out as soon as you reasonably can and do the necessary to trigger a regen.
