So I did my first decent run in the GTS to Silverstone on Sunday, and there was an annoying rattle from the foot well. Really drove me nuts in such a high quality car!!

The driving was brilliant, what a combination of quiet and comfortable, and quick and fun. I drove up the A5 delibrately - great car.

When I got home, I checked out the rattle and it is the plastic panel which sits above your feet rattling on the metal of the air/cooling pipes. Couldn't make the plastic fit better so had to put some microfibre into the gap.

Anyone else experienced this problem?

That has been mentioned recently, and if I remember correctly is said to be fairly common. The reported case was fixed with some double sided tape. But if you're near your OPC I'd suggest you get them to fix it.

My new Turbo has a trim rattle that is bugging me immensely. It's a pet hate in any car let alone a £75k one. Seems like it is coming from the passenger footwell area. It's away being detailed at the moment but I'll have a look when I get it back.

Ive got that too! although i had wondered if it was the passenger door nearest bonnet

I suspect that the plastic panel is in both footwells, and if it is too close to the metal air vents, it will rattle. Very easy to fix (double sided tape or a small piece of microfibre) but annoying that it occurs at all!!

I hope that's all it is. I really don't like the idea of the OPC pulling the dash apart in my experience they are never the same again. Haven't had a new car with rattles on delivery since an E36 BMW. Which reminds me a friend had an E36 325i nearly written off by a dealer stuffing it into a parked car while trying to solve trim rattles.

After many trips to and from the dealer it was eventually discovered after one year that a run of spot welds on one side had been missed by the robotic spot welder at the factory. I got a new car for £1000 extra as by that time I had done 10000 miles. Often wondered what happened to that car.

The first E36s were pretty rubbish, later ones much better. I have fond memories of the 325i and 328i I had. But not the first 320i which dumped all its coolant on the drive the day after collection.

All this talk of rattles and creaks must have left my Macan feeling left out as tonight my car developed an annoying creaking somewhere around drivers door panel or around B pillar. Been out with tube of Gummiphledge and treated all the rubber seals but not made any difference. Will investigate further at the weekend.

I had the last of the E30s just as the E36 was being announced - no new model teething issues and more spec than the new version. So a bright red 318is it was - great car, if a little tail happy! Can you imagine it didnt have a radio or alarm or remote locking included.....
