Broken windscreen

So I chased Autoglass today. Admiral has approved the OEM glass which saved an argument. It's being delivered to Autoglass Northampton next Tuesday where they expect me to rock up with the car. Which isn't so clever as Northampton can't recalibrate the cameras. That has to be done in Bedford. Waiting for call back. Not holding my breath.

That doesn't sound great.martin5789 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2017 11:51 am So I chased Autoglass today. Admiral has approved the OEM glass which saved an argument. I suppose if the job gets done well and correctly first time then may be acceptable.
Interested to hear the outcome. Fingers crossed

Well allegedly the glass is now going direct to Bedford branch where they are going to install the screen and calibrate the cameras at the same time while I twiddle my thumbs for a couple of hours. Watch this space for the next exciting instalment. Meantime the crack is growing - fortunately still confined to the passenger side.

Better news, and advoids a double trip.....but I thought it was best to wait 24 hr before driving with a new screen for the glue to fully cure.....? Have they advised otherwise?martin5789 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2017 8:53 am Well allegedly the glass is now going direct to Bedford branch where they are going to install the screen and calibrate the cameras at the same time while I twiddle my thumbs for a couple of hours. I've been unlucky enough to have had two Macan windscreens replaced.
The work was done by two different OPCs. In each case they wanted to keep the car overnight to let the adhesive cure.
Wrt insurance NFU handled both claims in an exemplary manner.

Thanks that's very interesting.
Re NFU yes I understand they are very good wrt windscreens but £1,600 theft from drive excess was a deal breaker for me. My garage is already full of other vehicles.

I swallowed the £1600 because the rest of the policy is good and because NFU do seem to provide a good claims service, which is when you really find out how good your insurance is.
You can cover some of the £1600 by insuring the excess separately, although I haven't seen cover greater than £1k offered.
ALA will cover £750. Questor cover up to £1k for £50 premium. There are others.
I have no experience of these so can't say if they're any good or full of 'gotcha' clauses, but might be worth a look.

That's good information and I'll certainly be looking in to that when the Macan insurance is due for renewal in a couple of months. As it was I just paid Admiral £70 extra over the BMW and stuck with them.Retired wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2017 11:16 am You can cover some of the £1600 by insuring the excess separately, although I haven't seen cover greater than £1k offered.
