Well I am sat in Costa next to Autoglass Bedford where the windscreen is being replaced. It is a genuine screen. Fitter is the main man and claims to have fitted six Macan screens last week. In a couple of hours we shall find out how good he is.

Hopefully the Latte was good and you are not still there....

At least you have a fitter with some experience.
Like a lot of his stuff it's as good as the individual.

Look forward to hearing some good news

I have to say that the job seems to be very well done. No damage to any trims and no obvious squeaks or wind noise. Interesting chat with the fitter who reckons that OPCs and other main dealers never fit windscreens themselves. They get owners to leave overnight and take car to Autoglass to get replacement and recalibration done. Then add their markup. Whether true or not I don't know, but have to say my OPC was a bit clueless about what calibration involved so sounds plausible.

Good news that they seem to have done a good job for you, Martin. 👍

I have never heard the thing about the windscreen glue before. When mine was replaced they were happy to let me have it back the same day, even though the car they lent me was available the following day. Not heard it on previous cars either. I wonder how important it is. Too late now!

My OPC seemed to know what they were talking about with calibration and I think that was done on site. They said they got a fitter in to actually fit the screen though. Perhaps varies from one OPC to another.

I queried this with Autoglass and they advised the glue would be cured after 30 mins. I'm a suspicious sort and wonder whether the 'overnight curing' is to give them time to get someone in to do the work, or to take the car elsewhere.

I have always believed that four hours was the absolute minimum curing time.

Maybe glues have moved on! They had mine from 8am and (I think) put the screen in before lunchtime. I collected it at 6, so it should have been set by then I think. I haven't had any subsequent problems or leaks - fingers crossed!

No reason whatsoever for Autoglass to allow a vehicle to be moved if the result is likely to be faults requiring the job to be redone.
