It took about 10/15 seconds to get to this.

I was unable to avoid a large piece of burst lorry tyre at about 70mph. Fortunately just near a side road, so was able to get off the dual carriageway with no real dama at all. Porsche rescue had me collected 35mins later, and 5 minutes after that I was at a large tyre depot.

At least I have the inflatable spare, even if it was buried below our luggage.

With the wheel off, the damage was obvious, and that I would not need to unload the boot to reach the spare!

So a new tyre was required, they didn't have one in stock and we were 350 miles from Calais in rural France. However, I drove away 4hours after the puncture, even allowing for French lunchtime, with a new tyre but at a cost. €140 for a taxi to collect a tyre from a depot, €200 for the tyre and £84 to rebook the shuttle because we would be more than 2hours late.
It could have been much worse; had it happened on a Saturday or Sunday - an extra 2nights accommodation to be found perhaps. Where would I leave the car safely, It could have been 2 tyres punctured and perhaps damage to the car, no doubt I would then require the assistance of an OPC. Would vehicle damage be covered under breakdown cover? Fortunately It was a Monday, just one tyre required and no collateral damage, so I didn’t need to find out.
The sting in the tail is that the replacement tyre was not NO rated, it was either that or wait a few days to locate one. So I need to have it changed asap, another £170.
Do I have tyre insurance you ask, no I don’t, but I’m certain most policies, like the Inchcape one on my Jaguar, only offer cover In the UK, so no claim possible.
In more than 25,000 miles over 10years driving in Euroland this was my only mishap, another little adventure!

I find punctures come in threes. Hopefully not as yours was away from home. I like the red “S”.

We were fine thanks Colin, no drama at all, a modest speed and the nearside lane helped, even Mrs B stayed calm. I had decided to take a slower scenic route avoidng toll roads, they’re favoured by lorries of course and there as lots of tyre debris, usually right at the side of the road, but not this big piece.

Well spotted on the red S, its from https://www.porscheshop.co.uk ~ although its not yet listed on their website so give them a call. 2 more punctures perhaps, less expensive I hope.

At least all are safe and as you say the outcome is ok too.

Insurance would have been a waste in this case absolutely.
Love the yellow calipers 👍

Unlucky! Presume you can stick the non-N0 rated tyre on eBay and recoup a little money?

Also, were you using Waze? I have found the app very useful here for warning of potholes, debris, roadkill, stopped cars, etc. It does consume your phone's power and data quite fast though, and of course relies on a high usage rate in the local area for good results, so it may have had very limited value in rural France. Just a thought.

Very shiny Macan in post number 5 on this page, BBR! 😎

Liking the sport tailpipes & looking forward to having those fitted to my Panamera. The OPC are just awaiting the delivery of the parts...

I’ll offer it on gumtree at a fair price but for collection, cba to courier one tyre. Its done less than 1000 miles.
Never head of waze though, the idea seems input intensive, perhaps while drving?

I like to keep it clean, easiy done in France, Italy and Germany, they have really good diy car washes with foam and even de-ionised water at one.
I specced the chrome tailipes so they stand out, they’re such a potent feature of the Macan that I wanted them really visible, standard and black disappear a bit.
They’ll look good on a Carmine Panamera, am sure you’ll post a photo.
