Watch this and take precautions. This is a BMW, but it can be as easily done to any Ford, VW or PORSCHE with keyless entry/drive

The thieves are using an IR Repeater and come up to your door or windows to hopefully boost your car key signal so they can drive it off. These IR repeaters are available on Amazon and eBay for not a lot of money and if they have jammed your keys to stop the car locking it makes the job even easier
Keep your keys away from your front door or windows and ideally store them in a faraday box or an RFID proof pouch or similar

Already a thread here about it. Well worth a read.

RF repeater, surely?
And sometimes a crowbar to break into your house and steal your keys. Must be terribly stressful having to park your car on display outside your house.

It is worrying that there are easy methods to gain entry to your car without any effort. You may as well leave the car unlocked and the keys inside!!
Yes, someone breaking into your house to take the keys is a horrible experience if it happens to someone, but surely the manufacturers need to be doing something to protect their cars better.

There used to be a theory a few years ago that you should take your keys upstairs with you to prevent someone breaking in and taking the keys. That all stopped when stories surfaced whereby a few heavies broke in, put the kettle on and threatened the occupants in their beds with dousing them with boiling water unless they handed over the keys. Don't know about you, but I'd rather wake up in the morning to a missing car than a horribly disfigured face. Cars are easily replaced.

I think I cover it in the thread I raised which Kas posted the link to above.happy days wrote: βThu Oct 12, 2017 12:37 pm There used to be a theory a few years ago that you should take your keys upstairs with you to prevent someone breaking in and taking the keys. Many burglaries are now committed with the sole intention of stealing the vehicle. Taking your key into the bedroom is not recommended as the thieves will inevitably end up there and not be too polite about requesting your key!
I was at a conference recently in Cape Town to discuss organised crime and the use of vehicles. Some of the examples I heard of vehicle theft and the methods deployed to get the car were quite horrendous in terms of the violence inflicted against the victim.
We don't tend to see the same levels in Europe.
I will update my original thread when I get a minute.

Nephew had a break in and his car keys stolen.
They then parked his car a few streets away.
The Police found it very quickly and it was recovered.
The thieves then came back with the keys to steal it again which they did but had to abandon it a few streets away as my Nephew had disconnected two of the four spark plug leads.
Prior to this he had had his motorcycle nicked.
He moved house.

I get stressed about one or two things. Parking the Macan on the drive isn't one of them. If it gets nicked I won't get another one.And sometimes a crowbar to break into your house and steal your keys. Must be terribly stressful having to park your car on display outside your house.

A little surprised to hear that, Martin. Any particular reason you wouldn't buy another Macan? And what would you replace it with if it was stolen?
