They then parked his car a few streets away.

The Police found it very quickly and it was recovered.
This method is very common.

They steal and then park the car to determine if a tracker is fitted. If the car is still there 24-48 hrs later they assume it hasn't and then take the vehicle permanently.

A little surprised to hear that, Martin. Any particular reason you wouldn't buy another Macan? And what would you replace it with if it was stolen?
FWIW, I wouldn't get another one if it was stolen. £50k doesn't get you a good enough one and £75-80k isn't good value for money.

Porsche just doesn't feel special as a brand. I'd be happy to spend money on something with good sportscar/track focused engineering, but not on a luxo barge.

And sometimes a crowbar to break into your house and steal your keys. Must be terribly stressful having to park your car on display outside your house.
I get stressed about one or two things. Parking the Macan on the drive isn't one of them. If it gets nicked I won't get another one.
For me the concern is more about being the target and knowing that if they can't get the vehicle by non-invasive means they will do so through force.

I am very cautious about opening my front door when I receive unexpected calls as their method is normally to push the door hard as soon as it's released which forces the occupant back.

Unfortunately for my neighbour the layout of my house / driveway is such that people mistake my drive for his so if I was targeted it is most likely his house that will be burgled!

Hmmm - food for thought, goron... 🤔

If my car was stolen, I might get something a bit different, but almost certainly another Porsche. Maybe a new Sport Turismo, but with fewer options than I specced on mine.

I think that Porsche have got me - hook, line and sinker.

They had me when they first said "Welcome to the Porsche family".

The Turbo is lovely but objectively it isn't worth £75k and if it attracted the wrong sort of attention I wouldn't want the ensuing worry about it happening again. I'd probably go back to BMW, maybe an M5, or the fastest new 3 series estate or something like a Golf R estate. Not sure really. If I had another Macan I'd want a turbo PP and that's even sillier money.

For 2016:

The UK’s most stolen cars:

1.BMW X5

2.Mercedes-Benz C-class

3.Range Rover Sport

4.Mercedes-Benz E-class

5.Land Rover Discovery

6.BMW M3

7.Range Rover Vogue

8.Audi RS4

9.Mercedes-Benz ML

10.Mercedes-Benz C63

The data comes as the number of taken cars with a keyless entry system has reached an all-time high, showing that felons are becoming more able to outwit automotive technology. Last year more than £11 million worth of illegally acquired vehicles were retrieved and returned to their owners.

And one of those manufacturers has given up trying to defeat the criminals as they know it will be overcome within days. Sorry, can't say which one.

And some of those are highly specific models (e.g. C63, RS4 and M3) as opposed to a much wider group (e.g. C Class, E Class). :ugeek:

Not that many RS4s and M3s are sold, so for these relatively niche models to be in the top ten, a high percentage of them must have been stolen!

Many of the top end vehicles stolen already have buyers for them and with specifics around model colour, spec etc. Once obtained they are moved to a container with paperwork prearranged.

Thieves at this end of the market are not opportunists wandering the streets looking for a nice car. They know what they want and have researched where to find it.
