I'm in a bright yellow Boxster loaner BTW, it's even got yellow dials! The tyre noise is pretty loud in that, I must say, especially on poorer surfaces, but you really notice the drop in noise when you get onto more recent low noise Tarmac, a big difference.

However, I will be due a new set within the next twelve months and am a bit concerned that Goodyear don't seem to offer a set of all-season, N rated tyres in the UK. I may be faced with a choice of Goodyear summer tyres or some other brand a/s. If that were the case, I would probably choose Goodyear summer tyres. However, I would then be afraid of getting stuck in the snow, mainly due to the embarrassment!
Goodyear do offer NO rated all seasons, at least in 19", just had them fitted. I found them on Mytyres, my local tyre fitter got them from their trade-only outlet, they came from Germany.

How do tyre manufacturers compare the Db level of their tyres, because as we have all said it totally depends on the road surface?

I do get that but you would imagine there is even a small difference between rigs?

When they went on for the first time last winter I noticed that they were quieter than the summers on the motorway on the trip home. I put that down, at least in part, to the softer rubber of the winters. But I was a little surprised, given the chunkier tread pattern. Both sets are 20", the summers are Michies, the winters Dunlop.
Same thing here: 21 inch winter Michies quieter and softer (no surprise there) than 21 inch summer Michies.

Perhaps they have to go to a central testing centre? Like Euro NCAP or similar?

Many thanks for that. I couldn't find them anywhere. Cheap too!
