You can add me to the "gamblers list"

No wheel/tyre insurance (can't remember being offered it by OPC) but no requirement for it so far :? :? :?

Nearly ten years ago with a new X5 and run flats I was sold tyre insurance at £300 for a year. The cost of one tyre. I replaced two tyres. I then discovered the tyres were not necessarily useless after a piercing and also sourced lesser cost non run flats. I did not take insurance for second year. Not sure where the lesson is there.

I looked at an X5 before the Macan and one of the things that put me off was the price of tyres - £500 for one.

Back then it was £600 a pair on the front and 700 the back.
I think the last set on the back cost me about 450. In ten years I used three tubes of sealent. At one stage I got a pair of previously worn on the front for £70.

I took out Wheel and Tyre insurance for the first time when I purchased my Macan. Im not sure why I did but it has turned out to be a good decision as I took some paint off the front O/S tyre on a pot hole and had a screw in the N/S rear tyre so spending the £399 with the OPC has worked out about right in my case. I managed to get the wheel and tyre insurance thrown in for free as part of the discount when I purchased my 911.

Might depend on tyre options, my 20" tyres stick out more than the rims so it will be hard to scuff the rims.

I'm sure i'll manage somehow now though!

I've gone for 20" to avoid cracked rims which have been a problem on the 3rd world roads we have in Essex.
The council is getting a bit reluctant to pay up after two tyres and a rim.

I've gone for 20" too, and also live in Essex. Hadn't really thought about the wheels having better pothole resistance, although it sounds feasible.

Thanks for all the replies - interesting mix of views. I'm tending towards self-insuring now.
