The Macan's reversing camera position, just above the number plate, attracts the dirt like no other in this mucky weather. Just when the camera is needed the most after a trip in the dark, it's is like looking into fog!

All other cars I've owned have had the camera higher up on the rear section of the car and weren't a problem.

Very true.

One of the poor design aspects of the car.

It was the same with my last BMW. As the car is normally in the garage and I approach from the back, I have just got into the habit of giving it a wipe before I get in.

The rear screen is also a dirt magnet and I suspect something to do with the aerodynamics

It is not a great design.

A small washer spray would probably work / clean it.

I often have to wipe it before reversing into the garage.

I have similar issue with the rear one. The front seems to be fine though.

To be honest the same issue on the latest Mini too..... :(

It was a real pain when I had a Macan so I solved it with a car which although it has the camera in exactly the same position as the Macan never gets a dirty camera.

It’s a 991.2 C2. Aerodynamics are a wonderful thing!!

I have a number of complaints about the camera:

  • The dirt collects easily. My wife had a GLC for a year. It's camera is hidden, deploys when reverse is selected, and has a rubber 'wiper' feature that cleans the lens as it is deployed. Image always clear
  • My greater annoyance is the presence of the large blue rectangle which is overlaid on the screen. This obscures the view of whatever may be in the space into which you are about to reverse
  • The sensor graphics can obscure the image
  • Illumination from the reversing lamp is insufficient for the sensitivity of the camera. In photographic terms, the camera needs a higher ISO!
My wife has now changed the GLC for an X5. Both have cameras which are clearer and brighter than the Macan, although the X5 suffers from dirt accumulation. Neither have a silly blue rectangle obscuring the image, and I reckon that a software change could remove the blue feature

14 months and 15,000 miles, still totally committed to my SD, but the reversing camera is probably the least pleasing feature. I wrote to Porsche when I first got the car, and didn't even get an acknowledgement!

But do you drive it much in this filthy UK weather?

Having done 14k miles in 2 Macans, if there is a 3rd, I won't spec the rear camera, I almost never use it when reversing.
