Could be worth trying it in Sport mode to see if setting off's a bit more responsive for those times you really need it to be when going forward.

PS....not sure if Sport mode makes any difference to reverse take off though 🤔

There is definitely a delay in the system, intentional or not, noticeable when engaging reverse on a downward slope. The car will roll forward. Its done this a couple of time and my first reaction was i had engaged Drive. Ive only encountered this on start up and haven't tested it on a manoeuvre. I have not encountered this in other cars. Whether this is a transmission thing or lack of a Hold function compared with other cars I do not know.

I've had exactly the same issue as you having parked overnight facing forwards on a steep drive (1:4). I had to rev up to 2000rpm before the car would back up the drive. It's not the hold function as that only stops the car rolling down the gradient. No problem on lesser gradients.

If I reverse onto that same drive the take off uphill the next morning is perfectly smooth with no more than 1000rpm.

It's not a basic DSG problem as my wife's Tiguan (2L diesel) has no problem on that drive. I've just learnt to live with it.

I’m aware of the hold function.

I know. Thanks. I was using phone and it came out a bit sharp. What I meant was perhaps other cars had an auto hold to mask the transmission lag.

I think the minimalist Ackermann setup contributes but whatever the cause manoeuvres in snowy car park was interesting today.

Interesting how recently I’ve noticed the Ackerman (or reverse) effect alot more.
Probably down to the colder weather (summer tyres) and the rubber skidding rather than biting.
