There is less than £2400 between the two variants base cost, all options cost the same, not much difference in running costs, so why wouldn't you go for a proper Porsche engine.

Best be quick if you want it to be a 'Porsche' engine.

The new engines coming have been jointly developed between Audi and Porsche.

Welcome Sarge

Please please don't buy a 2.0 - I've driven most variants of the Macan and it's one I wouldn't touch (sorry 2.0 owners!)

Performance was a real let down and the resale values will be poor too.

All other variants of the Macan are superb. With only 2.5k difference go with the S.

I'm sure I'll get a barage of abuse now but just expressing an opinion to a potential buyer who is going to part with 50k plus. Get the right car if you are spending that sort of money.

Hello Sarge,

Well I love my lowly 2.0, coming up for 20 months now, have covered just over 11,000 miles and averaged 29 mpg, mostly short trips. The car is lively and responsive remembering it 95kg lighter than a S.

So is there anybody who loves the 2 litre yes me.

Similar to MEO, I also have an April 2016 2.0 and have done 14k miles averaging a similar 28-29 mpg mainly short trips.

I think it’s a great car, with that weight difference giving a slight edge over the S in terms of handling (and perhaps braking).

I’m surprised at some of the negative comments about the performance of the 2.0, given that it’s pretty close in terms of power and 0-62 to the most popular Macan - the diesel (252 vs 258 hp; 6.7 vs 6.3 secs). [Some posts may relate to the original 2.0 which had a little less power.]

The 2.0 engine is lively but you do need to override the PDK and keep the rpm high when you want to release that power. I simply flip that left hand paddle as and when required (say exiting a roundabout), and always prefer manual mode to Sport buttons when I want some twisty road fun.

Overall I think the 2.0 is a fine choice but having said all that, If you are happy with slightly higher tax, insurance and fuel costs, the Petrol S does offer a significant step up in power for that extra £2.4k.

👍
2 honest common sense opinions from actual owners......

...don’t forget that 95 percent of the population would give their eye teeth to own a 2.0 Macan 😉

I don't have a problem with a jointly developed engine, the 2.9 looks really good on paper, the power will be there but also improved efficiency will be welcome, something Audi do well. No doubt Porsche will 'breathe' on it, perhaps add 2nd turbo.

Sarge wrote: Mon Dec 04, 2017 10:02 am Hello All - new here and seriously thinking of ordering a new 2.0T Macan - what's peoples thoughts on these versus the Petrol S? My thinking is that there isn't that much difference in performance with better MPG, insurance, lower price etc. It's just that having lurked around the forum for a bit, others don't seem to be talking the 2.0 up much?!

Thoughts would be great. The opportunity to get into a Porsche massively appeals and with a young family the Macan seems to make a fairly sensible (defendable to the other half) choice!

Thanks!
The 2.0 Macan is a fine car, it would not disappoint at all for most buyers, it would be a revelation in build quality and handling and a means of transport. Perhaps best to limit any Macan to 4 occupants, even children. For long journeys with lots to carry, a roof box on the optional roof bars (£228) will really help or a tow bar (£858). If you buy a 2.0, unless you spec different exhaust tips (£548) and remove the 'Macan' badge no one will know which engine it has, it will look the same as most Macans but not perform, feel or sound the same. My concern would be residuals, and an extra £2400 for an S is not much when most will pay over £50K in total. A 2.0 could never match a 3.0 in performance and feel, as I discovered many years ago going from a Merc 220cdi to the 3.0 cdi, since then I'm now on my 7th 3.0 car, to me engine size matters. You would only discover the pitfall of buying a 2.0 Macan, even blinged up, at trade in time. I can hear the intake of breath from the dealer... 'If only you had ............. " he will say. An extra £2400 on a 3 yr finance contract is not much and the exhausts tips are standard.

two points:

1. I don't care about residual values as plan to keep the car quite a long time and the odd few grand makes no difference to me

2. All this talk of performance being poor is really funny as the 2.0T Macan is quicker to 60mph and quicker in the all important 50-70mph benchmark than a 3.0 Diesel Cayenne. I don't hear too many of the tens of thousands of Cayenne owners lament the poor performance of that particular model

The sky is the limit with performance as the 3.0S petrol will feel sluggish compared to the Turbo PP and so on. In 9 times out of 10, our 2.0T Macan will beat my manual 300bhp Golf to 60
