Today I fitted a dash cam (quite pleased how easy it was to hide wires) and am using the power socket in the central armrest. Initially concerned that it wouldn't switch off when I locked the car, but it seems that after about 1/2 hour or so it does switch off, so hopefully I don't need to keep unplugging it, when out and about? However, 3 hours after parking in the garage and connecting up the Ctek battery maintainer, the unit was still powered up?

Anyone know if this is correct; is the Ctek making the car think it is still switched on?

Also, am I going to leave my car overnight away from home and come back to a flat battery?

It is in the manual about the 30 minutes. Not sure about the charger bit. But you won't come back to a flat battery - either your charger will be connected and the dash cam on or the power shuts off after 30 minutes.

Thanks, good to know. I guess the bigger danger is coming back to find someone has stoved the window in, to steal the cam?

How is the CTEK connected to the car?

The neatest way to permanently wire a dash cash is to use a piggy back fuse and take a feed of the fuseboard on the passenger side, the entire cable can be hidden under the door seal and above the headlining - 10 minute max

Ctek is connected to the 2 battery posts under the bonnet.

I was concerned about potential warranty issues, by making a connection into the fuse board.

I don’t have any backing for this, but I think that if the car senses positive current to the battery then it doesn’t shut off the accessories which is why the 12v socket keeps working. If you try without the CTEK and it shuts off, then that would add up.

That makes sense, I will just need to unplug the cam when I connect the Ctek.

Mine is the same, so I unplug the dashcam in central armrest when connecting the CTEK, if left connectd the dashcam stays powered and recording. The CTEK is plugged into the 12v socket on lh side of boot, and often stays connected that way for many days.
