Porsche GB sold 14,051 vehicles in 2017 compared to 13,097 in 2016 - an increase +7.3%.

See the full report here: http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-news/i ... nd-losers/

Some other extracts:

"A mere 13,500 pure electric vehicles found new homes."

"With the diesel’s inherent fuel economy advantage over petrol being diminished by reduced registrations, the sobering result is the first rise in carbon emissions from the new car fleet since records began 16 years ago. In 2016, the average new car emitted 120.1g/km – in 2017, this rose by almost a gramme, to 121.04g/km.

‘There are consequences…both for the environment and for the car industry, given the importance of adhering to CO2 targets,’ said Mike Hawes. ‘In our view, diesel is far from dead. Consumers need to buy the right technology for their driving [behaviour]: for higher mileage, larger vehicles, diesel may be better on CO2 and mpg.’"

Interesting reading and nice to actually see figures presented and not the EV has grown by 35% rubbish.

I expect diesel sales to drop further this year but as so far has been proven and comments by Mike Hawes last month that most people are switching to petrol and not EV.
So far last year people i know that had diesels (5) all switched to petrol. In all fairness all of them were NOT high millage users so had no real reason to go for diesel in the first place. None of the cars were high performance and just general school runs etc.
They were not convinced EV in its current form and infrastructure was right for them even with all the incentives.

I expect this may change in a good few years time.... Hopefully as more choice and solution's become available.

Great sales figures for Porsche :D

Not to forget about the hike in Road tax/£1500.. above 40k. From April 2017 I’m sure this influenced a huge number to buy earlier to by pass this charge, I certainly would have, hence I feel the figures don’t tell the whole story, due also to the fact that Porsche had not yet made the Diesel admission until latter in 2017. I would like to see quarter figures for the year. But good for Porsche.... still shows the economy is turning.

I think HM Gov will have to significantly increase their incentive to meaningfully impact the market. The big stick approach is crude and punters certainly aren’t yet convinced about the alternative. I dont know what Norway offers but it’s certainly working there. Meanwhile UK emissions will most certainty keep rising as older vehicles remain on the road.

Norway’s incentives were unbelievable
no VAT (higher than our rate too) , free parking, no toll charges, allowed to drive in bus lanes. The list goes on and on
It will be revised this year though.

If that was offered here I think we would all seriously consider it even with the current limited EV range and no matter what reservations people have about EV.

Re Dandocks post on EVs in Norway I am a regular visitor to this beautiful country of Norway and yes there are lots of Teslas there but the prices on
conventional ICE cars is pretty expensive compared to the U.K. and have found recently (August 2017) fuel is less expensive there in Southern Norway. ( do not ask about prices of Spirits) as I do not indulge. We in the U.K. have a lot to learn from my Norskie family and friends there they do not squander assets like some nations have. It is a great place to drive some spectacular roads with superb surfaces we can only dream about but not sure about charging points on less populated areas for EVs..Only regret did not move there nearly 50 years ago
