I'm an insurance company's dream. Renewal comes in, and I just renew automatically. Not this time - I decided to shop around. Both cars are currently with Admiral; I'm an accountant, doing 10k a year in the 718. Wife is a HR manager doing 20k in the Macan. She reversed a golf into a skip and wrecked the tailgate and rear bumper - claim was for £1,722 in 2016. No kids at home (why do they ask this?), loads of NCB and both 35+ years license holders.

Admiral renewal was £1616. Tried NFU mutual, but you have to phone up - I don't do phone calls, sorry. Manning don't quote in NI. So I have spent a while on various websites, with prices for both ranging from £999 (AXA) to £2,662 (M&S). I think AXA will be getting my business this year.

The Macan was the biggest variation going from £548 (AXA) to £2,795 (Abbey) with 718 ranging from £450 (AXA) to £1,998 (M&S). Most were in the £520-650 range.

Looks like it pays to shop around.

Why don't they have an on-line facility?

I'm with Admiral. Every year when I get the renewal I ring them up and claim I have a quote around £100 less, even though they are always by far the cheapest (around £590). They always give me the discount as I say how happy I am and I don't want to leave.

Truth is the next nearest quote on the comparison sites was over £800, going up to £3.5k.

No idea. They'd get more business that way. I guess they're 'traditional'.

Must be worth a phone call though...

Nice tactic. Don't they ask who your cheaper quote is from? :geek:

Perhaps - but I'm doing it while at work - I can dip in and out of the screens depending on the level of office activity!

I guess you have used a comparison site? I use Admiral for three of our cars at moment, always do them separately as renewals on multicar come out dearer, I think they work on the basis that less customers will be bothered to research. However, often end up calling them and quoting the lowest price for like for like and they match it automatically. if you call them late in the evening you are likely to be talking to some very polite and helpful Canadian. 15 minutes work for £600 even accountants don't bill that much. 😉

It's all to do with the inherent level of risk. Kids increase the likelihood of damage through a number of factors e.g. doors being flung open, higher levels of distractions to the driver, interior damage through kids being little d*cks, friends, bikes, footballs hockey sticks other things.

There's also an argument that some with kids will reduce the speed at which they drive (which may reduce the risk of accident).

Happy try Direct Line as well, they cover NI and have on occasions been cheap for me living in the same country as you. They don't appear on comparison sites but you can get quotes online direct from them .......... lol, guess that bit is obvious as they are called Directline!! They also do multicar discounts like Admiral.

Having said all that I'm all three cars with Admiral again. From memory the GTS is only about £300, wifes GTI about £200 and old Polo about £130 all renewed late last year. Clean licences and a lifetime of NCB for both wife and myself.
