The biggest hits IMHO are in the first and second years, slows a little through third and fourth, then time to make the decision "long term keeper" or trade on. Most economical in my experiences are to either keep 9/10 years and start again or replace at three. If you do the lifetime numbers factoring in maintenance you will find for many vehicles the actual spend over ten years is similar. Doesn't always work out with some high end and fast depreciating brands and with some its best to let someone else take the first six months. Unless of course you are lucky enough to bag an appreciating limited edition, then the question, is this a car to use or an investment to covet 🤔🤑😊

I bought my car in Oct ‘16, quite heavily specced with a OTR price just over £60,000. I also a couple of months later added a sports exhaust at a hefty £2,500 additional cost.

The car is in as new condition with 7,200 miles on the clock.

I have just got 4 different quotes to trade my car in, 2 from OPCs and 2 from independents. The values range from £42,000 to £46,000.

Thought it might be helpful for anyone curious about residuals. Interestingly, the desire to take the car has been high from both OPCs and independents with the increased spec being very appealing to purchasers.

Would concur with your figures Hawkeye, the offer for my 2016 SD from the OPC is near the top end of your offers, my SD currently has 18,000 miles on the clock, be nearer 20,000 when I get the GTS , I agree with Paul I do believe the SD is holding up well despite Dieselgate, when I look at the GTS and the overall deal then the I have lost 25% on the SD, I know that is a fair amount but we are talking top end Marquee, plus when you factor in VAT dealer profit etc then I don't think it is unrealistic, from a personal point the car is due its first service in March plus it would require new tyres over the next 12 months so I'm not going to have to shell out for those which is a cost saving, the OPC were keen to take back the SD so the market is there it's not all doom and gloom like some would have you believe 👍

Purchased mine in December 2016 also heavily spec'd (Cost £66K) and has just under 20K miles so wonder what mine is worth!

That does seem like a good deal! Painful for the seller though.
