Someone else mentioned that the 911C2 is almost as wide as a Macan.. it's not.. a 911 C2 is just over 1.80m in width, a Macan by contrast is 1.93m.. a not insignificant 130mm wider, which makes a 911 C2 20mm narrower than a regular 3 series BMW as a point of reference.

Not sure about the colour - you might be able to negotiate a lower price based on that!

I think the PTS Mint Green is part of the reason why the OPC is asking such a high price, rather than being a reason to negotiate a discount. ;)

If you want a top spec £60k two seat sports car, go for the GTS.
If you want an £80k base spec 2+2 GT type car, then the 911 should suit you.

I think it all comes down to specification, as a 718 Cayman GTS can be several types of car. Mini GT, fast road, track day spec etc.
With your available budget, you can tailor it to suit you.

Specified with PDK, PASM, heated standard seats and a nice Hi-FI, it will do a very good job of both sports/small GT car tasks.
This is the way I’d go, if I was changing from the creature comforts of a Macan. You’ll have some money to add more tasty options too :)

The 911 is ‘THE’ Porsche true, but let’s presume we’re all over that :roll:
The 911 feels way bigger and will be SO planted and slammed into the tarmac, that the same performance, will tend to feel like a bit less!
Also, with minimal options, it’s going to be a sparse, but not in a 911T charming kind of way.
It will also be harder to sell than a good spec GTS Cayman too.

If you want a 911 for £80k, then I think you should look a lightly used examples.
That’s too much money for a new car that’ll not feel that special :cry:

I did with my Cayman and can do with the 911. Change your golf cart to a Motocaddy M3 which folds down to fit in the front boot, change of clothes in a bag behind the front seats and the club bag lying on the passenger seat. No room for the caddy though :lol:

Many thoughts are similar to my own. :)

Not sure if you refer to the 1968 911T or the 2018 Carrera T.

I agree that a very low spec 991.2 C2 might have limited appeal.

Rather than a 911R or GT3, I see the Carrera T more as a 'junior' 911 GTS with lots of nice sporty bits, but with a bit less power. To me, there might be more fun to be had from squeezing more of the potential out of a sports car with 'only' 370hp... ;)

I agree that £80k could open the door to some very interesting low mileage 911s. :geek:

With regards to Cayman prices it looks like Porsche are having troubles moving them as they are currently offering a
£1K Deposit Contribution if you use Porsche Financial Services.

I never test drove a Cayman GTS but I couldn't live with the S. Nothing wrong with its performance / handling just that F4T engine drone !!!!
I drove about 45 minutes home and then back again, too much for me.

I initially wanted a Cayman until I drove one, but I managed to push the £'s to a 911 C2 it's much more refined.

So its a Base C2 for me but while i was waiting for a build slot a couple of nicely specced C2 came up wrong colour / wheels for me but a better price IMO than the £69K Cayman S you have been offered.

Personally, I'd not bother with a base Carrera. You'll suffer a lot less depreciation on a GTS variant. That's not to take anything away from them, they're still fantastic but depends what you want out of it.

I know there is this perception that the Carrera is larger than the Cayman, there isn't much in it. My GT3 is 1850 and the GT4 is 1800. The Macan GTS is 1926. The 718 and 981 series Cayman are the same width if I recall.

Personally, if it was me and I wouldn't want to take a bath on the purchase, I'd avoid the base Carrera and the 718.

I think Mint looks great on a 964 but on a modern car, it wouldn't be my choice and while it's exclusive and PTS, it's a very loud colour in the metal and you may struggle to move it on.

If I was shopping, I'd buy a 981 GTS. You get a flat six. Something like this would be my suggestion:

For what it's worth - the Cayman S is too pricey - it will suffer a heavier depreciation than a reasonably specced 718 GTS at 63k. If you want a new 718 then buy the GTS. I have to warn you that the sound of the engine is mighty disappointing. At 70k lots of used 911s available.

Nice. And coincidentally this one was sold when new to its current owner by the same OPC (Kendal) that has the Mint Green 718 Cayman S. :ugeek:

I think it would be a mistake to change from a higher and more comfortable riding position in a Macan to (what I would find, at least) a low and uncomfortable riding position in a Cayman or Carrera: also you do not have such a good view of the road ahead, nor as much space for luggage. Just my views !
