This was a terrible thing as it's really given me a 911 disease that I need to get rid of!! :D
Very nice 991.2 Cabriolet! The nicest loan car I've seen! They know what they're doing, these OPCs! ;) How long before you jump to a 911...?!
Yeah it was pretty nice! They obviously prey on the weak haha! So, if they find a 911 C4 GTS slot at the end of the year we may be having a conversation :D

Or a lightly used demo... ;)

happy days wrote: Wed Feb 14, 2018 8:29 am Being an owner of a 718S and having had F6 boxsters before, I really don't get this knocking of the four cylinder engine. Sorry, but I just don't.

It isn't worse, just different. I think that people are being swayed by every reviewer who slated the noise when the car was launched, probably as there's absolutely nothing else to slate. There is FULL torque available from 1,950 rpm on the S, so you never have to stretch it out, in any gear a firm prod on the accelerator and whoosh - you're away at warp speed. You don't have to have the engine screaming its head off to enjoy it.

Now don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the two aural bashings that my last boxster gave me at 3,000 rpm and then again at 5,600. Problem is, that when driving along normally, I am not usually in the habit of being at over 5,500 revolutions just to hear the sound. However, this new model is simply superb to drive, it really is a useful sports car and well priced for what you get. As a daily driver (and mine is) there's nothing like it on the market, for me. The balance is simply sublime. It just grips and grips and grips.

They're firm because they're a sports car. SImple. I understand that this mightn't be for everyone, but it is for me. Access into and out of them is the only problem I have as they're so low, And my exhaust doesn't drone at all, so I don't get that point either. Maybe the loan cars have PSE fitted? Mine doesn't and on my morning commute, even at motorway speeds up to around 95, it is simply a pleasure.
If you're using a 718 as a daily, I totally see the appeal but for a weekend toy, you don't have that flat six howl when you are likely to be pushing on. For me, part of the visceral pleasure of a sports car is the engine sound and I realised in a car like the 718 as to how important it was when it wasn't there. I don't need a reviewer to tell me that it doesn't sound as good as the outgoing model when I have functioning ears.

I remember a lot of reviewers saying that PSE was great on the 981 and I remember my dealer lending me a Boxster GTS for a week. I had to turn PSE off because it made me look like a tit - above 2000 RPM in 2nd crawling through my local village, it was making all sorts of unprovoked noises. I suspect this was because reviewers/customers had said that it didn't sound as good but in getting one thing, you compromise on something else. Perhaps this is where the drone comment on the 718 PSE comes in - in trying to give it more character, they've ended up making it drone.

The 718 cars are fantastic, you're right. A few styling considerations aside (I'm not a fan of the aesthetic of the chrome inserts on steering wheel and the exposed screws + still not sure about the PORSCHE badge on the rear deck but both can be blacked out and look quite good for it) but that's all I can say that I don't like.

Yes, it was a fantastic car. The colour is crayon and it was loaded with some nice extras with a list price of over £105k! It was sold about a week later!
I had it for over a week whilst Bristol OPC were sorting an issue on my MacanSD, It’s a long story but they have bought my car back and I will be taking delivery of a brand new GTS in a couple of weeks time! 😀

Mine wasn't DPF problem related actually.. don't want to go into detail apart from saying that I am more than happy with the way Bristol and particularly Andrew, the DP there, have dealt with it.
