We have a Tequipment Charge-o-mat which we use on our 2014 Macan. It is 2 years old and the wires leading to the 12V - interior of the car started to separate and now they are splitting exposing the actual wire. I have use electrical tape to bind - but a new section just opened today .. We are in the middle of a cold snap in Winnipeg - pretty much as every winter. Is there anything to be done - or is there a better charger where this will not reoccur? Any help appreciated!

Hi - is the extreme cold making the plastic coating brittle causing it to split? Do you store it in a warm environment and are careful not to tangle the wires and 'strain' them?
If so then perhaps a warranty issue with the dealer?
Or the CTEK website may have guidance as I believe they are the same chargers as the Porsche product.
My CTEK MXS 5.0 charger is fine with no wiring problems but our more temperate winters may help! This charger is good down to -20C but with your extreme cold you may need something more 'meaty'! Good luck.

Maybe heat shrink sleeving would provide a cure. I don't know how the battery connectors are terminated on this charger, but if they can be removed and reconnected simply that would allow the heat shrink to be slipped over the cable. From your description it seems you need to prevent the two cores from splitting away from each other. If this is the case a short length of heat shrink may do the trick.

Failing that, can the charger be opened up to enable a new length of more robust cable to be wired in?

To Nuclear Nick - I like the idea of shrink sleeve - trying to attach a more robust wire is good as well - just need to find someone capable.
To 8737 - Yes - the extreme cold is certainly a factor - and the Macan is not in an warm environment - I will also check the CTEK site.

Thank you for all the options. This is my second charger and I cannot believe that for he price the quality o the wires is so poor - at least for our climate.

The CTEK website does offer extension cabling and replacement connector cabling which may be useful for you and may avoid the need to get an automotive specialist to 'splice' wires. It does appear that the majority of chargers have an outdoor operating temperature down to -20C which is only -4F. From my climatology I seem to remember that could be a bit of a challenge in Winnipeg if the car is not tucked away in a heated garage.
