Porsche has woken up to the fact that a lot of their premium competitors are still launching new SUV models with diesel engines. This is particularly the case with all their Geman competitors even the niche ones like Alpina. So Porsche would be cutting off a lucrative income stream if they abandon diesel engines before they have hybrid and BEV alternatives in production.

Alpina's new SUV:
"XD3 gets 330bhp 3.0-litre six-cylinder twin-turbo diesel, which develops 700Nm of torque. That makes it possible, Alpina says, of covering 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds – 1.4 seconds quicker than a Porsche Macan Diesel S."
"The German brand has given the XD3 a typical Alpina makeover with a deeper front bumper, 22-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels and a new rear bumper sprouting a quad-exhaust setup."

German cities now have the right to ban diesel. Not looking good for Diesel, I fear.

Absolutely, this will now open the floodgates I fear?

We should all get a free 'equity reduction clock' to fit on our dashboards, courtesy of the EU!

Pre Euro 5 vehicles will be banned immediately. Euro 5 vehicles have until September 2019 before the ban becomes effective. Euro 6 not effected.

Usual journalistic licence .....

“diesel cars banned.....well, not all really.....just a few.....well really only those made more than 8 years ago and that are still running ....and even those aren’t going to be banned quite yet.....and no current diesel cars will be banned at all”

not quite the same sensationalistic snappy headline I concede, but closer to reality (not that reality should get in the way of a good story!)

15 million diesels in Germany, only 2.7 million being EU6 apparently, so this will hit quite a few people?

But at the discretion of individual local governments or authorities. But very possibly an early sighting of the iceberg. (No eco pun intended 😳)
