How did you arrange payment from the private buyer? This area does concern me, and I'm sure buyers, when dealing with large sums of money.mark-yorkshire wrote: ↑Mon Mar 12, 2018 1:07 pm I sold 981 Boxster and my first Macan by advertising on both Autotrader and Pistonheads. I sold my last Porsche to a private buyer. He did a funds transfer on his phone, and I could see the money coming into my account before he left to go!Bazza06 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 12, 2018 2:47 pmHow did you arrange payment from the private buyer? I sold 2 cars on Autotrader last autumn as I made way for the Macan. Both went for very close to my asking price. Both buyers did an electronic bank transfer - one actually made the transfer 2 days before he came to collect the car. I must look really trustworthy...
Really easy and inexpensive process, but in both cases the buyer was the only person who came to view the car.
I wouldn't use WBAC unless looking to offload a shed.

Iv never once traded in a car , I have always sold them myself, probably in excess of 20. I can understand if you are using your car as a deposit.. to raise the funds for you new purchase, this is a good idea, / or trying to get finance, but you will still lose £1000 s as a general rule. Selling privately is in my opinion the best way to save a vast amount of money, if you can put up with a few idiots!

Both the independent dealer and the private buyer did an electronic faster bank payment.Bazza06 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 12, 2018 2:47 pmHow did you arrange payment from the private buyer? I'd agree as a seller but the more expensive the car, the more likely people are to buy from a dealer. People pay the main dealer premium presumably because of the peace of mind, warranty etc. if something goes wrong. Not sure that always justifies the dealer mark up but fair enough.Mike and his Macan wrote: ↑Mon Mar 12, 2018 4:56 pm Selling privately is in my opinion the best way to save a vast amount of money, if you can put up with a few idiots!
Some people also seem to believe its better/safer to buy from indy dealers than private sellers, which is a much less sensible assumption. Private sellers may be a mixed bag but indy dealers definitely are (I've met some shockers) and often the warranties are hardly worth the proverbial paper.
An honest private seller with a properly cared for car should be the buyer's dream.

WBAC are actually ok if your Macan does not have many options ( the more basic the better ) and provided your Macan is 2 years plus old. Many OPCs have offered me less than WBAC. Provided your car is as described then WBAC have to honour their online offer.Nobleman wrote: ↑Mon Mar 12, 2018 3:12 pm I sold 2 cars on Autotrader last autumn as I made way for the Macan. +1. It’s a matter of trusting your judgement and using some basic common sense.Nobleman wrote: ↑Mon Mar 12, 2018 6:07 pmI'd agree as a seller but the more expensive the car, the more likely people are to buy from a dealer.
