So my 2016 2.0 Macan is booked in for an interim service (16,000 miles on the clock after 2 years) and a brake fluid change.

But today I’ve received an email from a David Metcalfe (from Porsche cars GB, not the OPC) which opens:

“Your Porsche Macan will shortly be due for its front brake pads to be replaced (prior to your next scheduled service).”

But the rest of the email however refers only to a need to arrange to get my brake fluid changed.

It’s strange in several ways. Firstly how would Porsche GB know whether my front brake pads need changing? Why does the email then switch exclusively to talking about brake fluid? Why don’t they know it’s already booked in for a fluid change?

I suspect it’s just an erroneous and ‘lazy’ automated email. Has anyone else had similar?

Potentially scary.

Data is received by your car via the SIM for updates to PCM maps erc, data goes out to Vodafone.

So why not data about your car going to Porsche GB via the existing online access that you have every time you start up the car or even when it is parked and locked?

You should not need new pads at 16000 miles.

I think you're right. Unless you've been repeatedly tracking your Macan!?

There’s no link from pad wear sensors to the dealership!😂
Its either a typo, as you suggest, or an assumptive sell!

The only link is the fact that Porsche GB will have your vehicle sale date in their system and the automated mail is triggered at the two year point. Not clever enough to be aware of your booking as it's logged with your OPC, although they would have it post service as they do randomly follow up with their surveys. As already stated, brake pad replacement highly unlikely and the once completed service record will identify material thickness for you.
Good luck and by the way, if pressed you don't have to take the air con service unless you want to. 😉

FWIW - I had an idenical email some time ago. I ignored it, thinking it was a clever way to have me spend money on a consumable way too early. I don't have the connect service so am unsure if data is actually transmitted via the on-board SIM.

I too got the same letter. I just ignored it because the car had just been in for its service at Porsche Edinburgh.
