Think we could run a parallel thread on why those of us who are tempted to change away from Macan (but haven't done so yet) are likely to do so.
I'm certainly in that camp with a move away from my SD. On the one hand, it's undoubtedly the best car I've ever owned. But in a year's time it will be approaching 3 years old and given the likely lead time for various alternatives (eg i-Pace, Cupra Ateca and its kin), now is the time to start thinking about a replacement.
I do increasingly think about Macan as something of a dinosaur - it's a design of a previous generation, though not old enough to really be a classic. The size and weight relative to cabin space is not good. And the dash layout and poor ergonomics of the mass of buttons (and especially those overhead, which are nigh on impossible to read with older, short-sighted eyes) belong to an age gone by. So, right now, i-Pace is the focus of my attention (yes, I know it's roughly Macan-sized, but it is unequivocally a next-generation car).
Edit: So deposit now placed on i-Pace for 2019 delivery. Just reserving a place in the queue for later confirmation once I've had a chance to look and drive in the flash, but on paper all looks good, if expensive. Example i-Paces are apparently on showroom tours, accompanied by i-Pace 'specialists' from JLR. Cambridge is not scheduled until early May so will need to be patient until then. Then apparently an invite to a track day at JLR Experience at Rockingham in July.
Why have you sold your Macans ?
Funny you should say that. I haven't opened my pan roof yet as I can't easily locate the button, intend to look at it with glasses when parked, lose interest/forget and move on, until the next time!
On our Q5 (exact same roof) it is a real easy circular button, which incorporates the screen operation, tilt and various degrees of 'openness'). Can do it in the dark.
Some things, such as that and the auto handbrake function, they should have definitely carried over from the Audi imvho?

Got auto-handbrake on mine; doesn't work exactly the same as othe VW group stuff but I always use the “hold” function at lights, junctions etc.

Even at night Paul?
I wish the parking brake switch on the 911 was in the same position as it is on the Macan. Instead, it's tucked away under the dash which makes it a little awkward to flick on.

When I test drove the 911 I spent a good fifteen minutes trying to find the handbrake as my yard has quite a slope. I had all but qiven up and comit the cardinal sin of RTFM when I eventually stumbled on it.Nuclear Nick wrote: ↑Fri Mar 23, 2018 5:16 pm Even at night Paul?

I sold my Macan because it was too good, well too good for what I needed a 4x4 to do. It was the seven SUV I've owned and by some distance the best. I always fancied a 911 so when finances allowed the lure was irresistible

As for the "chip" - it's a TDI Duel channel performance box from TDI Tuning. It not only handles the mapping, but also gets the turbo to come in quicker at lower revs to reduce lag and give better throttle response. I’ve got it set at around 300BHP, but it can do another 20 or so if I turn it up, but I never have, it was more for the better availability and delivery of the power than the performance. I got it done from new, so I've never had the car without it and always had great economy, the way the guys who fitted it put it is that the engine is just working more efficiently more of the time and provides greater torque so can actually go up and down the gears less because the engine does not feel the need unless you put the foot down - so most of the time it actually burns less fuel.

I couldn't stand the poor throttle response on my SD: I gave it to the wife, a fairly placid driver, and bought myself another BMW 640D. Now even she's complaining about the low speed throttle response! She says she'd rather have a Golf.....

In sport mode though, which is how I drive it 99% of the time, I find the throttle response more than adequate, particularly about town.jesim1 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 23, 2018 12:03 amWhat did chipping the Macan do to your insurance? With the tuning box in place covering both mapping and turbo it certainly helps with throttle response, but if your in sport the turbo is pretty much spinning all the time - not that you notice, but neither would you believe you were driving a diesel.

Hi James
I've considered the TDI myself. I'm not unhappy with my SD performance but I've always felt a bit short-changed as the same engine in the SQ5 gives what should be the power output of the SD.
What are you thoughts on warranty? If the box is removed before a service or warranty work, can the OPC see evidence of its previous existence? I know it's not an ECU remap but Im worried it will show up on the history as working outside the parameters of the factory set up.
BigPhil.

I have heard that all Porsche’s going forward will have the switch in the centre as Porsche now consider it to be a potential danger tucked away under the dash in an emergencyNuclear Nick wrote: ↑Fri Mar 23, 2018 5:16 pm Even at night Paul?
