Can someone help explain roof boxes to me please - it turns out I haven’t a clue yet I need one!
I have the factory roof rails on the car so I guess I need to roof transport system (horizontal bars) but does that then limit me to the Porsche roofbox or can I use some of the Thule boxes instead?
Thanks,
Simon
Roofboxes
Most Thule ones should be fine but you need to be a bit careful because they specify a maximum bar thickness (depth) if you are using their rapidfit system. For my Thule Motion, the maximum bar depth was 30mm - anything larger and the hand-tightened clamps will not grip securely.
The Porsche roofbars have a depth of about 35mm, hence my Thule roof box would not fit safely without a Thule T-track adapter.
EDIT: Now I remember researching it before, for this thread: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3138&hilit=thule

Thanks - as long as there are adaptors and bits to make it all work.
