I am selling my SD which has a private plate. I know how to remove it via GOV.UK and this will give me a new plate number immediately but will I then receive a new V5C?

The buyer will want the current V5C, I presume, but this will not show the new plate number.

You will get a new V5C within a very short space of time which is the one your buyer will need. Your current V5C is null and void once the reg has been changed. Also notify your insurance company if you are to retain ownership for a few days

Many thanks for clarifying, VanB.

Hope it will come as quick as that. I presume it's all automated these days.

That's been my experience too. Very efficient and the DVLA website is simple to use to boot.

Agree with all the above - really simple and efficient these-days ( for the govt 😳!) ...queing at the tax office and waiting 3 weeks for the paperwork is, happily, yesterday’s bad experience.
😉
Mrs P’s replacement log book came 3 days after I did the on-line retention (retention certificate in 2 days👍)

Edit.....! Just realised .....bazza selling the SD.....!?!?

That's right, Paul. I put it on Auto Trader 2 days ago and had 2 people view today, both wanted and now waiting for the higher bidder to complete.
Hopefully all will proceed without issue.

I am looking to buy a GTS but not right away.
