Mine has always shown an oil change required at 600 miles before the 20k and 40k services. Hatfield OPC said to just ignore it and stick to 20k intervals for the oil change.

Long time lurker here but my first post since taking delivery, loving the car and enjoying reading the forum with lots of useful advice.

My May 2017 Macan SD has just clocked up 10,000 miles and I’m getting the ‘Oil Change Now’ warning.
I’ve spoken to the OPC and got the message about the oil sensor monitoring the condition of the oil and is dependent on how you drive but it’s a strange coincidence that the warning has come up just on 10k especially given others experiences.
Although my mileage is not that high for a 16 month old car I tend to avoid short trips and a typical journey would be anywhere from 30 miles upwards with a fair bit of Motorway .
I’ve booked in with the OPC for an oil change and they’ve quoted £300.
Reading the various threads on the forum and general advice on the internet I can’t help thinking that an oil change at this stage isn’t a bad thing but equally I was led to believe that servicing was 20k or two years.
I think I’ve convinced myself to take the £300 hit but I can’t help feeling I’m having the wool pulled over my eyes especially when others are making it to the 20k/2 year service..
Any thoughts?
Cheers

Petrol engined Macans are straightforward “time and distance” ; 24 months / 20000 miles whichever is the sooner.
Diesels are “variable extended” where the oil is measured (others more technically minded than me may explain how - probably viscosity) and a warning will pop up dependant in usage but always on or befor 2 years time-wise. Lots of short trips (as yours seems to gave done on 10 000 mikes in 16 months) will dilute the oil somewhat and the message will pop up.

Mine is only at 7k miles in 12 months, but the dash is still showing 19k plus miles for the first service and similar for the oil change. Will be a bit disappointed if it suddenly switches over at 10k!

Thanks nsm, a similar mileage to mine at 12 months so odd that yours is showing 19k to the oil change but mine wants one now. I've got to be honest up to the Oil change warning appearing i hadn't been checking the dash so I don't know if it had always been counting down to 10k from new or not.

Paul thanks for your reply, I'd have expected that my typical journeys of 30 plus miles would be sufficient to get everything up to operating temperature and so the oil shouldn't have degraded too much, but maybe not.

My petrol-engined 3.0 V6 2017 Panamera 4 ‘asked for’ an oil change at 10k miles, despite hardly ever doing short trips. Covered 17k miles in first 12 months, mostly motorway mileage. Cynical me thinks it is/was a money-making ploy by Porsche. Or a faulty sensor of some description?

Have done 7k miles in my Carrera T since April and that is still showing oil change & first service due at 20k miles.

Intervals / service schedules can be changed by the dealership at PDI.....(re-inforcing your cynical side😉)

😱

...genuine question we asked customers with (then) “ new “ Octavia and Superb depending on annual mileage - in the days of semi-synthetic vs fully synthetic oil with a significant price differential.
