Macan SD - 1st oil Service , now quicker?

Much to my surprise ( oil change required ) light came on at 10K/only just 1year old.
I though 1st service was 20K or 2 years.
Has anyone ever done 20K /2yr in their SD as their 1st service interval.

OPC wanted £430, then went down to £300, I checked with another Porsche specialist garage for oil change they quoted £201, after which OPC came down to £248. + £12 for the loan car.
The minute I drove the loan car which was a brand new SD the engine felt very much more responsive/quicker than mine. Questioned this with OPC who said I needed to drive my car hard for 20 minutes or so , suggested 3000rpm in 5th gear on motorway as the car needed to burn off the exhaust system.

Did this and my car is much better, or am I imagining it?

Has anyone had this happen?

My Panamera 4 also asked for an oil change after only 10k miles, and that was a 3.0 V6 petrol.

I suspect a ploy by Porsche to generate more income...

I paid the OPC £300 for the oil change.

It's known as the 'Italian tune-up'! Honest John (Motoring Telegraph) as advocated this for years, going as far as saying take it to the red line occasionally for 30 seconds or so to burn out accumulated gunk from the combustion chambers and right through the exhaust system. Note this should only be done on run in engines and when fully warmed up and preferably under load. It also does a number of other things, like exercising and cleaning the fuel system fully and 'stretching' the con rods so that the pistons reach the furthest point up the cylinder bores to reduce any carbon or wear lip. So yes, your car may well feel better after a good blast.

modern gearboxes can adapt to the driver's driving style - so it could be the loan car is more likely to hold gears longer and thus accelerate faster, after all most people don't treat loan cars gently

The oil change is based on how dirty/degraded the oil gets and that comes down to type of journey/driving style.

Then there is the DPF - if you drive it gently then it might start getting fuller and can have an impact on the car's performance - so driving harder will burn off more.

I am only looking at 7K in first year, so I don't know - but on previous BMWs I have got pretty close to 20k when it starts wanting oil change (both in first year and over 2 years) - but generally I tend to do longish runs and will give it some welly

Stretching the con rods is a new on to me. Sounds like a good thing.

What's this with Porsche giving discounts? I thought it was something they did not do.

To the OP - My SD had its first service at just under 20K which I clocked up 13 months after purchase. There was no previous warning or request to do so earlier.

I managed 19.2k in just under two years. I can't remember just how many miles were still to go on the display but I think it was around 2k. As of today, the car is showing 11.5k until the next oil change having covered 9k since the last one. Seems fairly consistent.

We certainly used to find diesels needed to work hard at times to keep running correctly.

You could sometimes put one on a dynamometer at full power and watch the output increasing over about 15 minutes.

Give it a good thrashing - that's what I say :D :D :D

I actually don't find it that easy to thrash (and stay legal).
