I suppose I am being a bit neurotic but the other day a friend tried to close my open tailgate manually. I shouted across that it was power operated but it was almost closed by that time. It still seems to work perfectly but can anyone please confirm my thoughts that there is likely a slipping clutch of some type that would prevent damage to the system?

I very much doubt this caused any damage. In order to set the maximum tailgate opening height the handbook tells you to move the tailgate manually to the proposed height and then press and hold the close switch until you hear a beep. In effect you friend has simply moved it manually, so no worries :)

Thanks Guy, must admit I have not seen that in the handbook.

Don't think it will cause a problem.
