It’s not just local commutes. It faster by train from Preston to London than Cheltenham to London.

"This EU-wide recall is because these Porsche vehicles were found to be emitting excessive pollutants due to software that turned down emission controls during driving. The FMTA said it discussed "impermissible defeat devices" that lead to increased emissions of harmful nitrogen oxide at Volkswagen's Porsche sports car division.stick wrote: ↑Fri May 18, 2018 12:15 pm BBC reporting Porsche to recall 60,000 diesel Macan's and Cayenne's in Germany because of "cheating" software
'Porsche to recall 60,000 diesel SUVs'
Porsche has been asked by Germany's KBA motoring regulator to recall around 60,000 diesel-engined Macan and Cayenne sport-utility vehicles.
German publication Der Spiegel claimed the two models were fitted with more so-called "defeat devices" capable of reducing emissions in laboratory tests.
Porsche, sister company of scandal-hit Volkswagen, was not immediately available for comment.
This recall covers 6,755 4.2-litre V8 diesel Cayenne vehicles from 2015 and 2016, and 52,831 3.0-litre V6 Macans. These Porsche engines are made by Audi."

Is smoke related to the DPF filter? I thought it was just to filter the toxins ( obviously not all!!) and would not have a effect on visable smoke??

“Diesel cars fitted with a diesel particulate filter (DPF) will be given a Major defect and automatically fail the MoT test if they emit “visible smoke of any colour” during metered checks. “
...just visible smoke....nothing else!

I would recommend bringing the car up to temperature, mybe running in a low gear for a while before taking it in.

Smoke (not to be confused with steam) is visible because it contains particulates. The DPF is fitted to take out particulates.....hence a fail if there is visible smoke.
