Guys, your wives are obviously completely different from my wife. She is a girl racer and has a complete aversion to white van drivers. If I dare suggest she could not keep up with the boys or was in any way less capable then I am sure I would wake with high voice and my B***s being served to me as some form of dim sum dish. As she has said to the Porsche salesman again "this is his last Porsche my knicker drawer is empty, no more money for deposits". Until the next time LOL

My wife doesn't hang around..but she's a little 'G averse'..it's one of the reasons I always get better mpg..carrying speed through the corner. She also bollocks me for 'slalom'ing' around corners...by which she means 'taking a racing line'..bless! 😊

We should really make a fun list of options and put them in 2 columns ! One for the wives (tick interior lit mirrors) and one for us (sports chrono) we could have a good time doing this! His and her Macans!!!!

I wouldn't say my wife is less capable she just has different requirements from the car. Not everyone has to be a boy (or girl) racer just because they bought a Porsche. I guess that's why these extras on on an options list.

Had a chat with my dealer the other day and was asking about Sports Chrono and..he suggested that I should go for PASM instead as he felt SC was of more value on their sports cars and that the Sports button satisfied most people. I had never really thought about PASM as I'd always keep the car in the firmest mode which is meant to be the same as non PASM dampers. I'd also be interested if anybody has driven both and can share their feelings on the difference in ride/handling between PASM (sport mode) and non PASM.

I think your Dealer is right regarding the choice between PASM and Sport Chrono. If I had to choose between the two I would have PASM. In my Boxster SC makes the car too frantic. It really sets it up for track day kind of driving which in my mind is not much use on the public road. The Macan will no doubt be similar. Although the Macan will handle better than virtually everything else out there in standard set up PASM will improve it if you are an enthusiast.
I got a top tip from the Instructor at Silverstone regarding SC though. As it's so frantic when Sports Plus is selected you can simply put the car in manual mode and change gear when you want which gives you the super fast gear change and the exhaust "blip" when you want.

I have just bought a Macan S petrol and it has sports chrono and PASM. The car replaced my wife's RR Evoque which she loved. I also have a Boxster S 981 with sport chrono PASM and a sports exhaust. On the Boxster it is certainly worthwhile having these extras - activating PASM stiffens up the suspension and the sports chrono speeds up gear changes to lightning quick. All great fun on my Boxster.
Does your wife need that on her Macan? Well if she is anything like my wife she will be more interested in keyless entry and push button start, the power tailgate etc than PASM. In my experience you have to be wanting to exploit the full potential of the cars performance to benefit from PASM so unless you wife is a petrol head I doubt it will bother her. Although having said that PASM is very clever as the instructor on my Porsche day told me it "learns" your driving style over a period of time whilst it's activated and adjusts the suspension to suit.
My (wife's) Macan ha done 1600 miles now and I have not used the sports button or PASM yet other than to test that they are operational but I have driven the car reasonably quickly on back roads without them engaged and the car handles very well and probably even without PASM. a Macan will handle better and feel better than a Q5 I suspect.
So in short - if the car is mainly for your wife to use I doubt she will miss the PASM. I very much doubt my wife could tell you what it is or will ever press the button.
Hope you both enjoy yours when you get it.

So glad to hear this. Mates have ordered with PASM - my view which seems to be quantified here is certainly if a family car the Mrs are NEVER going to use these buttons, if you use at weekends with kids/dogs etc in cars you are not going to drive like a t**ser and as such SC and PASM are just a waste of money. We've had our Macan since launch day, yes I'm a 'keen' driver and petrol head and yes if money was no object may well have ticked every option including PASM and SC, probably bought the Turbo but for 90% of Porsche buyers budget probably is a consideration and these options just do not detract from the involvement and enjoyment of this car. The odd occasion you want to hammer it they may well benefit but I'll save the £1500-2000 on the 'toys' and have a couple of tracks days at Palmer Motorsport, be alot more rewarding!

Bottom line I reckon after novelty worn off these buttons will never be used.

Agree. She wouldnt tick Satnav over using here phone where I hate things on windscreen so I would. Think you need to add column for kids too........ Talked us into heated rear seats and actually I'm glad we did, after a cold rugby match will make all the difference in winter when they are cold through!

LOL

My daughter said - what anuother couple of hundred when spending that much on a car. And not wanting to be selfish, I ticked, tinted windows, rear blinds, rear climate and heated seats all for them. Just wait until she has to buy her own car and see what extras she puts on... Smile

It will make it a lovely place to sit in the winter - ok maybe she would want the Panamera... Confused
