One more thing about PS+ as there is confusion about what it does.

It is PROGRESSIVE power steering, where maximum assistance is at parking speeds and the level of powered assistance gradually reduces to zero at normal road going speeds.

I for one find that without PS+ a Macan is heavy to steer at parking speeds and it does my bad back no good at all, others do not seem overly bothered and often comment that they do not want to have power steering when driving normally which of course they do not with the progressive nature of PS+.

Thanks, yes, that was my understanding of it and my wife appreciates having it when she drives the car. My dealer has confirmed that they can retrofit it. I wouldn't have thought to ask for it without your earlier prompt so I am indebted to you for that. Thanks again.

As a road car, steel suspension is universally regarded as the default option...........................................occasional off road? air is useful.

I found air suspension on my current SD supremely comfortable and it coped with my very occasional and very modest "boy racer" demands admirably. That's everything I ask of my suspension. I didn't want to go to steel and end up regretting it.

That, I can understand.

With a wink and a nudge - when you run out of road on a corner the off road setup will help regain the tarmac............ :P

I find the ride/handling on steel and 21 inch rims excellent. However, I did come from one of Mr Porsche's 'sports' cars.

Well, my wife has a Boxster which, occasionally, when I've been good, I am allowed to use. It's huge fun in short bursts: awesome handling and a great soundtrack but, after a while, I find I've lost a few fillings and gone partially deaf. Therefore, at my age, I'm looking for something a little more comfortable and relaxing for longer runs!

As for the difference between a GTS and an S? - I don't think there is enough of a difference that you would notice it enough daily to really care about it if you buy an S - on a track a GTS may be half a length quicker than an S, but on a normal everyday road it's irrelevant, it's all in your mind, but that can be a big influence on it's own to some?

Spec wise I tent to look for things I want, rather than things I don't. So if I really wanted something that was not on the list I would miss it, but if I got extra things I didn't care for then it would be no big deal. The pano is one of those I can take or leave, and do think people may want it, but they will not pay an extra £2k second hand for it, so I would never spec one at that money, I'd rather have the extra head room and lower weight and COG.

As previously mentioned, this is your money and your choice, it's hard to find two cars specked exactly the same in any Macan, so it shows we are all very different, and spec our cars accordingly.

The only other thing I'd add would be I'd look at how long you intend to keep this car and have a think about the resales then - so if your going to keep it 3 years, think three years from now and how much will you get back on the GTS Vs the S, then work out the saving your making now and add them to those figures to get as best an estimate as possible about the total depreciation over those three years of the two cars - that would probably be my deciding factor as I view the cars as very close, and both a good buy to begin with.

Good luck with whatever you choose, I'm sure you will enjoy either, and I also believe your doing the right thing, because what is the point in feeling you have missed something when you can afford to sort it with some extra cash you won't miss? If you would miss it you would not be looking at a new Porsche after 12 months! ;)

Sorry mate, I'm one of those guys. Are you aware that "your" denotes ownership and "you're" is a truncated form of you are? Please, please, for the love of God! My eyes!!
Really?, and yet you begin a sentence with "Sorry mate" ?

Are you aware you have a double space between "guys." and "Are"? and also "are?" and "Please" - oh, and, I almost missed the last one as well, but I'm sure you get the theme?

As for bringing my religious beliefs into blasphemous derogation of my grammar - well, another own goal.

Pot - kettle - black - If your going to get picky, at least do it in a fashion not to embarrass yourself

Thanks, James, that's very helpful and positive.

I can (just about) rationalise the numbers on this deal and they work for me.

With regard to the new spec, the car has all the essentials that I would look for and then the luxuries that I don't value. As you say, we are all different and my essentials are: nice colour, Bi-Xenons, air suspension, upgraded wheels, upgraded seats, reversing camera and front seat heating. This new S ticks all those boxes and anything else falls in the category "nice to have", of which I have plenty.

Sounds like I am doing the right thing.
Derek

One extra that I started extolling the virtues off in the Winter of 2016/7 was one that I had fitted to my Macan during its Sept 16 build and in use I found it to be much more beneficial and used more frequently than the heated seats was my heated steering wheel.

Its sheer bliss to have warm hands on a cold day.

So its another box to tick or at least to check out when you come for a change of motor again.

Depreciation is the sole reason I rarely buy new cars. 'My' Macan SD is two years young. I got a great warranty with the remainder of the new car warranty followed by two years approved used warranty. Interestingly, I was also given a letter from Porsche stating that they would buy the car back from me should any City I visited regularly (say for work), banned diesel cars. There was a sliding scale based on age and mileage. Even the OPC didn't realise this was available until June this year.

I usually pay cash and have become immune to the ridiculous trade-in values offered before negotiations begin. You must remember that the shiny showrooms and nice coffee have to be paid for somehow and that means the customers. No point in moaning about it, just don't accept it and walk away. I have the time and patience to grind them down.

PS I know I will miss the heated steering wheel option that I had on my previous car, Range Rover Sport, but they are as rare as a compliment from Jeremy Corbyn on Macans.

But are you actually going to take note of his valid point or simply continue to use "your" incorrectly at every opportunity? I suspect the latter given you have made the very same mistake in your reply to him!

BTW it's totally normal to leave a double space after a full stop. Something else to ignore in future hey, lol.
