Because Porsche makes iconic sports cars and has done for over 50 years, most of which have been manuals, and most of which are still on the road. With such a rich heritage, not every decision will be based purely on ‘business’ or economic factors.

Just look how popular cars like the 911R, 991.2 GT3 with Touring Pack and GT4 have all been - with manual transmissions. And the 991.2 GT3 was offered with a manual option, after strong complaints from enthusiasts that the 991.1 GT3 was PDK-only. ;)

May as well say ‘Why offer bright cheerful colours when 90% of buyers choose monochrome colours?”.

The same could be said of air cooled vs water cooled along with many other changes from tyres to brakes to abs etc. The fact of the matter is that only a small fraction of Porsche buyers want a manual gearbox so, as a manufacturer, the logic is to take it out of the lineup or, in what would be a truly Porsche move, charge extra for the manual

Nostalgia never goes out of fashion. 🤓

But perhaps once those brought up with a manual box wash through the system it will totally pdk.

In any event green legislation will be the ultimate arbiter.

I wondered who would be the first to spot the tyre error, well done Wilson  . I'm surprised that so many agree or partly agree with me that pushing a pedal, waggling a stick and releasing a pedal every 3 or 4 seconds is old hat.

Many, many years ago a family friend having recovered from a serious heart condition was preparing start driving again. A regular trip was the +/- 8 miles into Manchester. Friends and family persuaded him to swap for an automatic after working out that the return journey involved over 1000 gear changes!

The PDK box is so good and such fun to drive on the paddles I can't see me ever wanting a manual car again although I did toy with it when ordering the 911after test driving a manual (great manual box).

Changing gear on average every 24 metres over a 16 mile return journey!? Wow! Must be a pretty built up area. :geek:
