I've had both. I can tell you, the petrol mugs the diesel in every respect concerning performance. The only thing that I miss is the mpg figure of the diesel!

๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰ Iโ€™ve had both too, and can concur that at 85 mph on the motorway they are both doing exactly the same speed, that the diesel takes a tad longer to get there, isnโ€™t quite as exciting, but is cheaper to run with regards to the amount of fuel used (never let me be accused of not stating the obvious๐Ÿ˜‚)

Erm, didn't Plato do rather well in a BTCC Seat diesel?

And don't forget truck racing. They're usually diesels too! Probably quite good for racing when you're elderly because it's quite slow. I mean you've got time to read a newspaper going down some of the straights! :D

Absolutely. Then again when that Golf R zips past at 125 and you yearn to let rip?

This thread has become quite amusing, reading people trying to justify an SUV as an exciting, near sports car choice of motor. Come on chaps, the Macan is a truck. A nice, useful, decent handling truck admittedly, but a truck, all the same.

can only agree with nsm3, but boys will dream of using a Porsche as described in there literature, but never going near a race track to use it and unable to use it fully on any uk road, so 43 mpg is still good for me.

8 mile round rip! Forget diesel and petrol and go hydrid or the full Leaf. For that distance I'd also consider a Taxi too.
