Welcome, skipper!

Yep, Porsche have said they won’t be making any diesels in the future.

Your contact in the OPC isn’t very well informed. Or he was being economical with the truth.

The 2.0 is the first facelift Macan model available, but it will soon be followed by 3.0 S, GTS, Turbo etc...

I believe that thread pre-dates Porsche’s announcement that it would not build any diesels in the future (although they’ll continue to be available from other parts of the VAG group). :geek:

Monitoring the pre-owned Porsche website to see if any trend on diesels. Some interesting observations...

From graph (Licenced/SORN...end qtr-3 2018 not yet published)
- As soon as the GTS came out diesel sales dropped
- GTS quickly became best selling car excluding diesels
- Base Macan sales starting to pick up as diesel availability stopped

From spreadsheet ("Pre-owned on the Porsche website)
- Pre-owned Macan S are like hens teeth
- Pre-owned Base Macan availability disproportionately high
- Pre-owned Diesel availability disproportionately low

Possible conclusions:

- Early adopters of base Macan quickly upgrading (to GTS)?
- Diesel owners hanging on?
- Macan S owners definitely hanging on

Still not sure what it means for the future of residuals for diesel, but early indications are that Macan diesel owners might well be hanging on to their Macan for longer than first thought if there is no ready high mpg alternative, which can only be good for residuals.

A minor point of interest from the Approved Used Locator. There are four 68 plate SDs offered for sale (all mileage and price "on application"). I didn't think you could register a SD after 1 September 2018 because they do not meet WLTP requirements.

There are also seven 18 plate cars on offer with less than 100 miles on the clock. Mind you as the asking price is close to what was list price, I'm not over surprised they're sticking around.

Ray G's spreadsheet is interesting. From the time the GTS came out it outsold the S. Both the S and the base Macan sold at roughly the same rate so maybe the fact that more used Base Macans (as a percentage of vehicles for sale) are on offer implies a higher level of first owner dissatisfaction.

I've no idea of the long term residuals for SDs but the fact that mine (after three years and 30k miles) still looks good and goes well could mean that there might still be a demand for them.

Twelve months from now it will be interesting to study the rate of Macan sales in the UK and compare it with Ray's spreadsheet. That will give us an idea of the impact of no diesel option on overall sales.

That's a great visual to the data. I wonder if any other Porsche GTS line has a similar impact on sales and if, as observed, these where existing owners upgrading or new owners being attracted. I (along with some other members) are in the upgrade camp.

Questions for the S, why so steady?

Thanks for putting this together.

As an SD owner, 2.5 years old and just coming up to its 40k service, I'm one that would probably be ordering the facelift if it was available in Diesel.

As it is, I'm going to hold on to mine. There's nothing else in Diesel that I like, except for the SQ7, but it's just too much of a barge for me, plus it's not a Porsche.

With the miles I do, and the fact that I own a Company Diesel tank that I can liberate from, there's no other option aside from Derv.

I'm quite happy with the SD, nothing's gone wrong in 2.5 years except for the Transfer Box which will be repaired under warranty when it goes in for the service next week. I extended the warranty to 5 years in year one so I can see me holding on to it for at least that long. The OPC are always contacting me regarding a trade-in but a petrol will probably cost me £5k extra a year in Super Unleaded. Over 3-5 years it starts to add up.
