Daft question, perhaps.
I've given up trying with eBay's finest offerings as they basically unravel after a few weeks. So I tried a Rennline one at an absurd £63 including next day delivery. The thing was worse than the Chinese nonsense...wouldn't fit together and looked well and truly used, it went back 8 minutes after my failed assembly attempt and I await my refund. Tiny piece of kit too, crazy price. It was the magnetic one.
I really do use a 'phone holder for a great Android app...is there actually anything out there that anyone has that basically just holds a 'phone and works?!
Phone holder
I bought this a while back when hopping between cars and doing nav software tests.
A bit ungainly, but sturdy and holds even enormous phones.

I've tried a few others over the years and they often just fall off the screen.
I've never had any success with vent-mounted ones.

So for work I have 4 different (yes, I know...) various android devices in the car. 2 phones and smallest tablet are held on with these:
which are just ebay magnets holders that come with a metal backing plate you can stick to the phone on put inside your phone case. I've never had any problems with them falling off. Anker (available from amazon) do some suction versions that are very similar and are good
quality and seem to work.
The bigger tablet (8inch) is in a RAM mount which is industrial but if you want some that will absolutely never move or come off this is the way to go for several extra ££
